The comments came amid renewed clashes between Taliban and Pakistani forces earlier this week &mdash; the latest flare-up occurring less than two months after both sides agreed to a fragile ceasefire aimed at halting weeks of border hostilities. Each side has accused the other of violating the truce.

Parvathaneni Harish, India&rsquo;s Permanent Representative to the UN, said New Delhi remains &ldquo;gravely concerned&rdquo; by what he described as Pakistan&rsquo;s &ldquo;trade and transit terrorism,&rdquo; pointing to Islamabad&rsquo;s repeated closure of border access for landlocked Afghanistan.
&ldquo;We add our voice to calls for paying full respect to the United Nations Charter and international law with particular attention to protection of innocent civilians,&rdquo; he said.
Harish noted that blocking routes essential for Afghanistan&rsquo;s survival violated global trade norms. &ldquo;The cynical closure of access for a land locked country whose people are suffering numerous debilitating conditions since many years are in violation of WTO norms,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Such open threats and acts of war against a fragile and vulnerable LLDC nation, trying to rebuild in difficult circumstances, constitute a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law.&rdquo;
&ldquo;While we condemn such acts, we also strongly support the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Afghanistan,&rdquo; he added.
The border conflict resurfaced in early October following a Pakistani airstrike on Kabul, prompting Afghan forces to retaliate. Fighting escalated even as Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi was visiting India, marking the worst period of conflict since the Taliban takeover in 2021.
After weeks of hostilities, Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to a ceasefire on October 19 following mediation by Qatar and Turkey. However, the truce has begun to fray. A spokesperson for the Taliban regime said Pakistan initiated the latest round of shelling, leaving Kabul &ldquo;forced to respond.&rdquo;
Harish told the Security Council that India is monitoring the evolving security situation and pressed for collective global efforts to prevent UN-designated terrorist groups &mdash; including ISIL, Al Qaida, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and proxies such as The Resistance Front &mdash; from exploiting cross-border spaces.
Calling for a calibrated approach toward Kabul, he said punitive-only strategies have repeatedly failed. &ldquo;A coherent policy of engagement should incentivize positive actions,&rdquo; he remarked. &ldquo;We call on the United Nations and the international community to adopt nuanced policy instruments that help bringing sustainable benefits for the people of Afghanistan.&rdquo;

In a strong retort against Pakistan in the UN Security Council, India on Monday said its neighbour as a country that &ldquo;bombs its own people&rdquo; and conducts &ldquo;systematic genocide&rdquo;.
During his remarks to the UNSC open debate on &ldquo;Women, Peace and Security&rdquo;, India&rsquo;s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish said Pakistan conducted Operation Searchlight in 1971 and sanctioned a systematic campaign of genocidal mass rape of 400,000 women citizens by its own army.
&ldquo;Every year, we are unfortunately fated to listen to the delusional tirade of Pakistan against my country, especially on Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian territory they covet,&rdquo; the Indian envoy said.
&ldquo;A country that bombs its own people, conducts systematic genocide, can only attempt to distract the world with misdirection and hyperbole,&rdquo; Harish said.
The world sees through Pakistan&rsquo;s propaganda, he added.
On March 25, 1971, the Pakistani army had launched a brutal crackdown involving widespread civilian killings throughout East Pakistan code-named &lsquo;Operation Searchlight&rsquo;.
Harish told the council meeting chaired by Russia that India&rsquo;s record on the "women, peace and security" agenda is unblemished and unscathed.
India&rsquo;s strong response in the council came after Pakistan, in its statement, raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. &ldquo;To exclude Kashmiri women from the Women, Peace and Security agenda erases its legitimacy and undermines its universality,&rdquo; the Pakistani delegate said in her statement.
Harish, in his remarks, also said that India remains unwavering in its commitment to the &ldquo;Women, Peace and Security&rdquo; agenda and stands ready to share its expertise with partners, particularly those in the Global South, fostering collective solutions to shared challenges.
He highlighted India&rsquo;s consistent contribution to UN peacekeeping as an expression of its commitment to global peace.
&ldquo;What distinguishes India's peacekeeping legacy is not merely the scale of our contribution, but our pioneering recognition of women as indispensable agents of peace,&rdquo; he said.
As early as the 1960s, India deployed women medical officers to the Congo, marking one of the earliest instances of women serving in UN peacekeeping operations, the ambassador said.
This was not merely a symbolic gesture but a practical acknowledgement that women's perspectives, skills, and presence are essential to effective peacekeeping, he said.
In February 2025, India hosted the International Conference on Women Peacekeepers from the Global South, bringing together women peacekeepers from 35 nations.
The two-day gathering examined the evolving challenges facing women in peacekeeping operations &mdash; from addressing sexual exploitation and abuse to leveraging technology for enhanced effectiveness.
The conference was not merely a forum for discussion but a platform for developing actionable strategies to increase women's participation and their impact in future peace missions, he said.

A UNSC Monitoring Team report has linked The Resistance Front to the deadly Pahalgam attack, citing Lashkar-e-Taiba&rsquo;s backing, reinforcing India's position on cross-border terrorism.

The Resistance Front, a proxy of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group, has found mention for the first time in a UN Security Council (UNSC) report for its role in the Pahalgam attack that is expected to bolster India's diplomatic offensive against Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism.
The report by the UNSC's Monitoring Team (MT) quoted one unnamed member state as saying that the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir could not have happened without Lashkar-e-Taiba's (LeT) support and that there was a relationship between the "LeT and The Resistance Front (TRF).
The development is significant as all decisions of the UNSC's 1267 Sanctions Committee, including reports, are adopted by consensus by members of the top body of the UN, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.
The Pakistan foreign minister boasted in the Pakistan National Assembly about forcing the removal of references to TRF in the UNSC press statement condemning the Pahalgam attack, they recalled.
The mention of the TRF in the MT report is how the world views Pakistan's "lies and deceitful narrative", the people said on condition of anonymity.
The MT report said five terrorists carried out the Pahalgam attack. Twenty-six civilians were killed in the attack.
"The attack was claimed that same day by The Resistance Front (TRF), which in parallel published a photograph of the attack site. The claim of responsibility was repeated the following day," it said.
The report also noted that TRF retracted the claim on April 26 and there was no further communication from it, adding no other group claimed responsibility.
"Regional relations remain fragile. There is a risk that terrorist groups may exploit these regional tensions. One member State said the attack could not have happened without LeT's support, and that there was a relationship between LeT and TRF," the report said.
"Another member state said the attack was carried out by TRF, which was synonymous with LeT. One member state rejected these views and said that LeT was defunct," it said.
The member state which claimed that LeT was defunct largely appears to be Pakistan.
The UNSC's 1267 Sanctions Committee is tasked to implement sanctions against terrorists, terror groups, and entities.
The people cited above said Pakistan's strategy of plausible deniability, using secular and modern names like "The Resistance Front" and "People Against Fascist Front" for its jihadi proxies to divert attention from LeT and JeM (Jaish-e-Mohammed) terror groups and give an indigenous appearance to its terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir -- now stands "punctured".
This also marks the first mention of the LeT and Pakistan-based terror groups in the report since 2019.
"The inclusion of TRF in the MT report despite Pakistan's efforts for its removal highlights Pakistan's undeniable involvement in fomenting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir," one of the people cited above said.
It also attests to our credibility in the UN on the counter-terror front, the person said.

The Congress on Wednesday slammed the PM Modi-led government for allegedly failing to prevent Pakistan from assuming key positions in the United Nations, calling it a major diplomatic setback for India.
Pakistan on Tuesday said that it assumed the Presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of July. The presidency of the Security Council - the world body's power centre - is part of Pakistan's two-year term as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, which began in January 2025.
In addition, Pakistan will chair the Taliban Sanctions Committee and serve as vice-chair of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee.
Speaking to the reporters, Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said, "the terror state of Pakistan has now been made the global security broker. The devil is now in the chair." Pakistan, "a terror state with a proven record of harbouring terrorists, promoting terrorism, and exporting terror to India" was being elevated to global leadership positions, even as India continues to face terror attacks sponsored by it, he said.
"This happened just weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack, which was Pakistan-sponsored," Surjewala alleged, questioning the Modi government's "silence and inaction".
He claimed Pakistan's elevation came "despite all the bravado on foreign policy" displayed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, who, he alleged, had failed to rally global support to prevent this outcome.
Citing a specific instance, Surjewala pointed out that Pakistan assumed the vice-chair of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee on June 4, 2025, despite its repeated violations of international resolutions on terrorism.
"What are the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, and India's Permanent Representative to the UN doing," he asked.
He also criticised the government for failing to protest when Pakistan, allegedly backed by China, blocked India's proposal to designate Abdul Rauf, a known anti-India terrorist, as a global terrorist in the same Counter-Terrorism Committee.
"The same Pakistan becomes vice-chair of the Counter-Terrorism Committee, and the Government of India raises no objection," Surjewala claimed.
He also lamented the 'decline' of India's traditional diplomatic ties.
"Our old and trusted allies, relationships built by the Congress across the world, in Asia, and our neighbourhood have been alienated. Today, we are isolated. Even smaller nations like the Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka no longer stand with us." "Diplomacy requires more than photo-ops and optics," he said.

"The Council, I think, was more or less united on the need to preserve the territorial integrity and unity of Syria, to ensure the protection of civilians, to ensure that humanitarian aid is coming," Russian UN ambassador Vassili Nebenzia told reporters after the emergency meeting requested by Moscow.
Russia was a key ally of Assad, who was toppled by Islamist-led rebels over the weekend after a short and stunning offensive.
"But look, everyone was taken by surprise by the events, everyone, including the members of the council. So we have to wait," to see how the situation will evolve, he said.
Deputy US Ambassador Robert Wood called it "a very fluid situation."
"No one expected the Syrian forces to fall like a house of cards," he continued.
"As many folks said in the consultations... the situation is extremely fluid and is likely to change day to day for the time being," Woods said.
However, Woods noted that "just about everyone spoke about the need for Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence to be respected, and concern about the humanitarian situation," indicating the council is working on a joint statement.
"The intention is for the council to speak with one voice on the situation in Syria," he said.
When asked about the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group, which led the rebel coalition which toppled Assad, and whether it would be removed from the UN sanctions list, both Nebenzia and Wood said the council has not yet broached the topic.
Since the Syrian civil war first broke out in 2011, the UNSC has largely been paralyzed in its response, with Russia consistently using its veto power to protect Assad's government.

The UN Security Council has adopted a resolution that demanded scaling up humanitarian assistance throughout the Gaza Strip but did not call for a ceasefire which the UN Secretary General said was &ldquo;needed&rdquo; for aid to be effectively delivered.
After days of intense negotiations and delays on a vote, the 15-nation Council on Friday adopted the United Arab Emirates-drafted resolution with 13 votes in favour, none against and abstentions by Russia and the US.
The resolution demanded that parties to the conflict &ldquo;allow, facilitate and enable the immediate, safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance at scale directly to the Palestinian civilian population throughout the Gaza Strip, and in this regard calls for urgent steps to immediately allow safe, unhindered, and expanded humanitarian access and to create the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities.&rdquo; It also demanded allowing and facilitating the use of &ldquo;all available routes to and throughout the entire Gaza Strip, including border crossings.&rdquo; The resolution however did not call for a ceasefire and experts described it as being &ldquo;watered-down&rdquo;.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, speaking to reporters at the UN headquarters after the resolution was adopted, said that a humanitarian ceasefire is the only way to begin to meet the desperate needs of people in Gaza and end their ongoing nightmare. &ldquo;I hope that today&rsquo;s Security Council Resolution may help this finally to happen but much more is needed immediately,&rdquo; he said.
In response to a question on whether he was hoping the Council would have joined his call for a ceasefire, Guterres said &ldquo;Of course, I was hopeful. That doesn't mean that things happen according to our hopes. But in any case today, you can see, always, a glass as half full or half empty.
&ldquo;I hope that today's resolution will make people understand that a humanitarian ceasefire is indeed something that is needed if we want humanitarian aid to be effectively delivered,&rdquo; he said.
US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said it took many days and &ldquo;many, many long nights of negotiating to get this right, but today, this Council provided a glimmer of hope amongst a sea of unimaginable suffering.&rdquo; She said that through the resolution, the Council called for urgent steps to immediately allow safe, unhindered, and expanded humanitarian access and to create the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;ll note that this is the first time this Council has used this language. Language we believe is critical to scaling up aid and underscoring the tough steps ahead, as we work together to achieve a lasting peace,&rdquo; she said.
To expedite the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, the resolution also requested Guterres to &ldquo;expeditiously&rdquo; appoint a Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator with responsibility for facilitating, coordinating, monitoring, and verifying the humanitarian nature of all relief consignments to Gaza provided through states which are not party to the conflict.
UN director at Human Rights Watch Louis Charbonneau said while the US didn&rsquo;t block the resolution, it &ldquo;worked hard to water it down in negotiations.
&ldquo;Now the US needs to ensure that Israel implements it. Israel must immediately stop the atrocities &ndash; no more collective punishment, no more starving and unlawfully bombing civilians,&rdquo; he said.
Reacting to the Council passing a &ldquo;watered-down resolution&rdquo;, Oxfam Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Sally Abi-Khalil said the failure to call for a ceasefire after five days of deliberate delays and dilutions of the resolution is &ldquo;incomprehensible, and utterly callous.&rdquo; Oxfam said an immediate and permanent ceasefire is the only way to deliver humanitarian aid at the &ldquo;scale and speed urgently needed, end the horrendous loss of life and ensure the safe return of hostages.&rdquo; Guterres noted with concern that over the last weeks and days, there has been no significant change in the way the war has been unfolding in Gaza.
&ldquo;There is no effective protection of civilians. Intense Israeli bombardment and ground operations continue. More than 20,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed, the vast majority women and children,&rdquo; he said, adding that about 1.9 million people &ndash; 85 per cent of Gaza&rsquo;s population &ndash; have been forced from their homes.
Guterres said that Hamas and other Palestinian factions continue to fire rockets from Gaza into Israel.
He added that many people are measuring the effectiveness of the humanitarian operation in Gaza based on the number of trucks from the Egyptian Red Crescent, the UN and its partners that are allowed to unload aid across the border.
&ldquo;This is a mistake. The real problem is that the way Israel is conducting this offensive is creating massive obstacles to the distribution of humanitarian aid inside Gaza,&rdquo; he said.
UAE&rsquo;s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh said that if &ldquo;drastic action&rdquo; is not taken, &ldquo;there will be famine in Gaza.&rdquo; &ldquo;The purpose of this text is very simple. It responds with action to the dire humanitarian situation on the ground for the Palestinian people bearing the brunt of this conflict while protecting those who are trying to deliver life-saving aid,&rdquo; she said.
&ldquo;We believe that the resolution begins to unblock life-saving aid whose denial has condemned more than half a million people, in Gaza, to famine,&rdquo; she added.&nbsp;

In an address at a think-tank, Korosi strongly pitched for reform of the UN Security Council to reflect the changing balance of global power and economic heft of various countries and criticised the slow process that was started around 17 years back to bring the changes.

The Hungarian diplomat, who is currently serving as the President of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, commended India's call during its recent membership of the UN Security Council for peace in Ukraine and its humanitarian aid for people hit by the conflict.

Days after he was declared a designated terrorist by the United Nations Security Council's 1267 Committee, Pakistani terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki released a video from prison.
Speaking from the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, Makki denied having any links with al-Qaeda or the Islamic State (ISIS). Makki said that he was added to the 1267 Committee's sanctions list based on "disinformation by the Indian government".
He is the deputy leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and the brother-in-law of its chief Hafiz Saeed. He is in jail since 2019 over terror financing cases.
"I denounce all kinds of terrorism and violence perpetrated by such groups. I believe in the principal position of the Pakistani government regarding Kashmir&hellip;," he said.
He regretted the UNSC's decision to enlist him without giving fair opportunity to respond to allegations or hearing his point of view. "No due process was followed or information was provided regarding these listings," Makki said.

Yet another Pakistan-based terrorist has been declared as a global terrorist by the United Nations Security Council.
The UNSC's ISIL (Da'esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee on 16 January 2023 added Abdul Rehman Makki to its list of global terrorists. Makki is the brother-in-law of Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed.
In June 2022, China had blocked India's proposal to add Makki to the list of the Sanctions Committee, which is also called the UNSC 1267 Committee. Makki has already been designated a terrorist by India and the United States of America under domestic laws.

The UN Security Council, under India's presidency, adopted a Presidential Statement on Thursday underscoring the obligation of nations to curb terror activities of blacklisted individuals and groups regardless of their "nationality" and the need to deny safe havens and prosecute perpetrators of terrorism.
The Presidential Statement said that Security Council reminds all States that they have an "obligation to curb the terrorist activities of all individuals, groups, undertakings, and entities included on the ISIL (Da&rsquo;esh) and Al-Qaeda Sanctions list created pursuant to resolutions 1267" regardless of the nationality or residence of such individuals, groups, undertakings, or entities.
The Council urged member states to participate actively in maintaining and updating the ISIL and Al-Qaeda Sanctions List by contributing additional information, submitting delisting requests when appropriate, and by identifying and nominating for listing additional individuals, groups, undertakings, and entities.
China, an all-weather ally of Islamabad, has repeatedly placed holds and blocks on bids by India and the US to list Pakistan-based terrorists like Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar.
The Council reiterated the obligation of member states to prevent the movement of terrorists or terrorist groups by, inter alia, effective border controls, and, urged member states to exchange information expeditiously, improve cooperation among competent authorities to prevent the movement of terrorists and terrorist groups to and from their territories, the supply of weapons for terrorists and financing that would support terrorists and terrorist groups.
The statement underlined that safe havens provided to terrorists continue to be a significant concern and urged member states to cooperate fully in the fight against terrorism in order to find, "deny safe haven to, and bring to justice, extradite or prosecute, in accordance with applicable international law, any person who supports, facilitates, participates or attempts to participate in the financing, planning, preparation or commission of terrorist acts or provides safe havens."
Through the Presidential statement, the Council condemned in the strongest terms terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and all terrorist acts, including those on the basis of xenophobia, racism and other forms of intolerance, or in the name of religion or belief, and further reaffirmed that terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilisation, or group.

The Council also strongly condemned attacks by terrorist groups or individuals on civilians, critical infrastructure and soft targets, including transnational and cross-border attacks, and demanded the immediate cessation of such attacks, and called on all member states to summon the requisite political will to denounce all acts of terrorism.
The Security Council expressed its deep concerns as terrorist groups continue to make efforts to destabilise governments.
The Council noted with concern that terrorist groups craft "distorted narratives" that are based on the misinterpretation and misrepresentation of religion to justify violence, and that terrorist groups further seek to use names or religion or religious symbols, in order to manipulate followers and for propaganda or recruitment purposes.
The Council recognised the "importance of conducting outreach to entities with expertise and experience in crafting counter-narratives and promoting tolerance and coexistence, including religious actors, to counter terrorist propaganda and narratives." The Council strongly condemned the flow of weapons, military equipment, unmanned aerial systems and their components, and IED components to and between Da&rsquo;esh, Al-Qaeda, their affiliates and associated individuals or groups and encouraged member states to prevent and disrupt procurement networks for such weapons.&nbsp;

India has abstained in the UN Security Council on a resolution establishing humanitarian exemption across all United Nations sanctions regimes, asserting that blacklisted terror groups, including in its neighbourhood, have taken full advantage of such carve-outs and have been able to raise funds and recruit fighters.
The 15-nation Council, currently being presided over by India, voted on the resolution on Friday that was tabled by the US and Ireland to create a sanctions carve-out that exempted humanitarian efforts, with Washington asserting that the resolution "will save countless lives&rdquo; after being adopted.
India was the sole abstention while all other 14 members of the Council voted in favour of the resolution that decided that processing or payment of funds, other financial assets, economic resources, and provision of goods and services necessary to ensure the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance are permitted and are not a violation of the asset freezes imposed by the Council or its Sanctions Committee.

Council President and India&rsquo;s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, speaking in her national capacity as she delivered the explanation of the vote, said that &ldquo;our concerns emanate from proven instances of terrorist groups taking full advantage of such humanitarian carve-outs, and making a mockery of sanction regimes, including that of the 1267 Sanctions Committee.&rdquo; Kamboj also made a thinly-veiled reference to Pakistan and the terror outfits based on its soil.
&ldquo;There have also been several cases of terrorist groups in our neighbourhood, including those listed by this Council, re-incarnating themselves as humanitarian organisations and civil society groups precisely to evade these sanctions," she said in an apparent reference to Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), which calls itself a humanitarian charity but is widely seen as a front organisation for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET).
Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), a charity run by terror outfits JuD and LeT, and Al Rehmat Trust, backed by another terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) are also based in Pakistan.
"These terrorist organisations use the umbrella of the humanitarian assistance space to raise funds and recruit fighters,&rdquo; she said.

Responding to a question on democracy and freedom of press in India, she said "to that I would like to say that, we don't need to be told what to do on democracy.
"India is perhaps the most ancient civilization in the world as all of you know. In India, democracy had roots going back to 2500 years, we were always a democracy. Coming down to very recent times, we have all the pillars of democracy that are intact - legislature, executive, judiciary and the fourth estate, the press. And a very vibrant social media. So the country is the world's largest democracy.
"Every five years we conduct the world's largest democratic exercise. Everyone is free to say as they wish and please and that is how our country functions. It's rapidly reforming, transforming and changing. And the trajectory has been very impressive. And I don't have to say this, you don't have to listen to me. Others are saying this," Kamboj said.

He said Moscow sees the prospect of making the Security Council more democratic, exclusively, through broadening the representation of countries from Africa, Asia and Latin America.
“We note India and Brazil in particular as key international actors and worthy candidates for permanent membership within the Council whilst simultaneously unilaterally and mandatorily raising the profile of Africa,” Lavrov said.
India has been at the forefront of efforts at the UN to push for urgent long-pending reform of the Security Council, emphasising that it rightly deserves a place at the UN high table as a permanent member.
At present, the UNSC comprises five permanent members and 10 non-permanent member countries which are elected for a two-year term by the General Assembly of the United Nations.
The five permanent members are Russia, the UK, China, France and the United States and these countries can veto any substantive resolution. There has been growing demand to increase the number of permanent members to reflect the contemporary global reality.

Jaishankar told the Council that in a globalised world, the impact of the conflict is being felt even in distant regions. He said the Global South, especially, is feeling the pain very acutely. "We must therefore not initiate measures that further complicates the struggling global economy. That is why India strongly reiterates the need for an immediate cessation of all hostilities and a return to dialogue and diplomacy,” Jaishankar said.
Referring to Modi’s remark to Putin on the sidelines of the 22nd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Uzbekistan's Samarkand that "today's era is not of war”, Jaishankar said at the UN Security Council "Clearly, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized, this cannot be an era of war." "On our part, we are also providing both humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and economic support to some of our neighbours under economic stress," he said.

“India has been consistent in calling for an immediate end to all hostilities,” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador T S Tirumurti told the UN Security Council meeting on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine.
He said India has reiterated its urgent demand for safe and uninterrupted passage for all innocent civilians, including Indian nationals remaining in Ukraine.
“We are deeply concerned that despite our repeated urgings to both sides, the safe corridor for our students stranded in Sumy did not materialize,” Tirumurti said.
Tirumurti said India has managed to facilitate the safe return of over 20,000 Indians from Ukraine.
India has been making efforts to evacuate its citizens from the city but with little success due to heavy shelling and air strikes.
To evacuate its citizens from war-hit Ukraine, the Indian government has launched 'Operation Ganga' under which thousands of stranded people, mostly students, have been evacuated from nations bordering Ukraine's western frontiers. However, the evacuation from the eastern part remains a challenge.
