The Uttar Pradesh government has finally cracked the whip.
After multiple warnings to employee and extending deadlines to disclose their assets, the state has now followed through on its threat.
Salaries have been withheld for 2.44 lakh government employees who failed to declare their movable and immovable properties by August 31, 2024.
Among those who didn&rsquo;t comply with the asset disclosure guidelines, the majority are from the education and revenue departments.
The Samajwadi Party, the state's leading opposition, has criticised this move.

In a reshuffle in the police department, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday issued transfer and posting orders for 84 IPS officers, according to an official statement.
IPS officer Sanjeev Gupta has been made Additional Director General of Police and Secretary of the Home Department.
Aligarh Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Shalabh Mathur was promoted as Inspector General.
Dharmendra Singh, who was DIG (Recruit Training Centre) in Chunar, Mirzapur, has been made IG.
L R Kumar, who was holding the charge of DIG Law and Order, has been made IG Law and Order, the statement added.&nbsp;

The Uttar Pradesh delegation also met senior representatives of HCL Technologies, Unilever, Nestle, Microsoft and ReNew in Davos.

Hero Future Energies (HFE), part of business conglomerate Hero Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Uttar Pradesh government for investing Rs 4,000 crore in a renewable energy and clean technology project.
The MoU was signed by Agriculture Production Commissioner and Infrastructure &amp; Industrial Development Commissioner of the Uttar Pradesh government Manoj Kumar Singh and Hero Future Energies Chairman and MD Rahul Munjal on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.
The company currently has a portfolio of 3 GW of grid-connected wind, solar and rooftop solar power generating assets operating in India and Europe, and another 2 GW of projects are in the pipeline across India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the UK.
The Uttar Pradesh delegation also met senior representatives of HCL Technologies, Unilever, Nestle, Microsoft and ReNew in Davos.

In yet another accomplishment for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has bagged first prize for its performance regarding the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. The state government was awarded the first prize in ODOP by the Central Government on Wednesday. Union Ministers S. Jaishankar and Piyush Goyal presented the award to Amit Mohan Prasad, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh government at the Bharat Pavilion in New Delhi on Wednesday.
After receiving the award, Amit Mohan Prasad said that it was a memorable moment when Uttar Pradesh was honoured with the first ODOP award at a ceremony held at Bharat Mandapam.
"This achievement has been possible due to the remarkable vision of CM Yogi Adityanath, who initiated this program in 2018, and all other states are now following suit", he added.

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved the implementation of recommendations from the Amitabh Kant Committee report on real estate projects, in a move that could bring relief to lakhs of homebuyers in the state. The approved recommendations include providing immediate registry and sub-lease deed rights to homebuyers and benefits of 'zero period' to developers in terms of penalties for delay during COVID-19 from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2022. The approval came after a proposal of the Industrial Development Department for the resolution of legacy stalled housing projects, UP cabinet minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said during a press briefing in Lucknow. "The cabinet has approved the implementation of the recommendations of a central committee headed by Ex CEO of Niti Ayog Amitabh Kant," said Khanna, the state's Minister for Finance and Parliamentary Affairs. "For this, two main points were considered that buyers interest was taken into account. Those who have bought homes should get its possession and registry immediately," he said.

City Magistrate Jyoti Singh was quoted by PTI as saying that landing any plane at the Mudha Pandey airstrip was not possible due to the ongoing construction work.

The Samajwadi Party on Thursday alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government has denied its chief Akhilesh Yadav permission to land his plane in Moradabad, while the district administration denied the charge, saying the landing was cancelled due to ongoing construction work.
"As per a pre-announced programme, national president Akhilesh Yadav was supposed to attend a function in Moradabad on February 4 but the Yogi Adityanath government is not allowing the plane to land," the party said in a tweet.
"This is a very condemnable act. The BJP's arrogance will end soon!" it added.
When contacted, City Magistrate Jyoti Singh told PTI that due to the construction work currently underway on the airstrip, landing is not possible for any plane.
According to the schedule, Yadav had to land at Mudha Pandey airstrip on Saturday.

Who is the real majority in India? We deep dive into the first past the post system!&nbsp;

As election season inches closer, massive rallies with seas of people as far as the eye can see give a shining picture of our country as the world&rsquo;s largest democracy. A fact that no party in power ever loses an opportunity to remind us - however as many say, the devil lies in the detail and a breakdown of India&rsquo;s first past the post election system begs one to ask the question - what is the majority in India?
India votes as per the first past the post system, also known as the system of winner takes all. Simply broken down, this method of voting means that each person of the electorate gets one vote and the candidates who gets the most votes wins - regardless of what their vote share is.
This system works for a multiparty set up like India, where a simple majority is tough to reach.&nbsp;But that being said, as with all other systems - there are loopholes and shortcoming in this one too.
One of the largest criticisms about FPTP is that it&rsquo;s not representative in nature. Minorities, on account of never being able to beat out winning candidates in securing a greater number of votes, end up missing out on the opportunity of getting a seat at the decision-making table.
Another criticism is that since it&rsquo;s about the candidate who gets the greatest number of votes - the gap between the people who actually voted for you, versus the entire population is very wide. Let&rsquo;s try to understand this using the example of Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
In the 2017 Assembly election, Amethi had about 3 lakhs 34 thousand eligible electors. Of this only 1 lakh 87 thousand voted. That is a 56% voter turnout. Of this turn out - only 64,226 picked Garima Singh as their MLA - just 34% of the voters, and only 19% of the eligible voters. Despite the fact that a BJP MLA was not picked by 81% of the population in her constituency - we still call this the popular vote.
Another facet of the FPTP is that there is no correlation between the vote shares and the seats secured. In 2017, the SP had a 21.8% vote share, and the BSP a 22.2% vote share, however despite the fact that BSP had more votes in terms of numbers, the SP secured 47 seats and the BSP only 19. This is because it&rsquo;s not about the votes that are polled but the margins of victory and loss in each constituency.
The numbers are a little confusing, but what are the other alternatives?
Some have suggested a proportional representation system which is about allotting seats in the ratio of the vote share. If a party has 30% votes, give them 30% seats - it sounds simpler than it is. Many say that this is a logistical nightmare and can lead to severely unstable governments. In fact, arguing against the system of proportional representation, Dr.B R Ambedkar had said that reservation is a far better safeguard to the rights of minorities and marginalised groups.
Let&rsquo;s take a look at the numbers as they stand in UP today. In 2017, the BJP secured close to 40%&nbsp;of the total votes polled. The voter turnout was at an impressive 61.04% of the electorate. However, this number diminishes to 24.2% of the people who were actually eligible to vote. Another way of looking at it is&nbsp;75.8% of eligible voters in the state didn&rsquo;t support BJP.&nbsp;
It has been the same story nationally since the start.&nbsp;
 No party, not even Congress under Jawaharlal Nehru, has won 50% vote share in any national elections, beginning 1951. The most a party has got is 48% under Rajiv Gandhi in 1984. The Congress won 404 of 514 Lok Sabha seats after Indira Gandhi's assassination.
 For four decades after Independence, Congress ruled the country with just over 40% voteshare.
 As the Congress domination waned and coalition era kicked in in late 80s and 90s, vote share of the main winning party plunged to 30%. 1996 to 2009, parties formed govts with less than 30% voteshare. The winning party's voteshare again crossed 30% when Narendra Modi-led BJP swept to power.&nbsp; So is there some confusion about &lsquo;majority&rsquo; in our country? Yes
There then remains only one way to lessen the gap in the numbers - and you know it already! Go vote! The biggest tool in our hands when it comes to making the assembly more representative in nature is to make sure that we exercise our sacred right to vote. There is enough time, so if you haven&rsquo;t already - make sure to go and get your voter ID card made, and make these elections as democratic as possible!

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will lead a march that will be taken out by his party legislators highlighting the issues in Uttar Pradesh before the Monsoon Session of the state legislature commences on Monday.
During the march, the party MLAs and MLCs will raise issues of unemployment, price rise, crime against women and poor law and order situation in the state, the SP's chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said here on Sunday.
He said the march will begin at the SP office and will pass through Raj Bhavan and Gandhi statue located near the General Post Office before culminating at the Vidhan Bhavan.
The party members will vigorously raise the problems of the people in both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council, the SP leader said.
Social harmony is in danger as the BJP government is working with a "revenge mentality". Contrary to the spirit of democracy, the BJP is doing "politics of hate", he alleged.

Following this, Yadav began a sit in protest and alleged that the Yogi Adityanath-led state government has been a total failure. It does not want to face the concerns being raised through the mega rally.&nbsp;
On the other hand, while speaking to media ahead of the state's Monsoon session, Uttar Pradesh chief minister said, "There is no harm if any party asks their questions in a democratic way. Samajwadi Party should take permission for any procession which should not harm anyone. Following laws &amp; order is too much of an expectation from Samajwadi Party leaders", he added.&nbsp;

Former UP governor Aziz&nbsp;Qureshi&nbsp;was booked for sedition on Sunday&nbsp;for allegedly passing&nbsp;derogatory remarks against UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
The case was registered on the complaint of BJP&nbsp;leader Akash&nbsp;Saxena&nbsp;in the Civil Line police station of UP's&nbsp;Rampur&nbsp;district.
In his complaint, Saxena&nbsp;alleged that Qureshi, who was a senior congress party member, had compared the Chief Minister to a "blood-sucking demon" and went on to add that such&nbsp;remarks can create tension between 2 communities and lead to unrest in society.
The complaint came after&nbsp;Qureshi, the former governor of Mizoram,&nbsp;visited SP leader Azam&nbsp;Khan's wife Tanzeen&nbsp;Fatima at her residence on Sunday. Later, while addressing media, the 81-year-old&nbsp;politician called the UP government a 'devil' in reference to cases filed against Azam&nbsp;Khan.&nbsp;

He said places of faith neglected since long are being revived now.
Aditynath also prayed to Lord Krishna to eliminate the novel coronavirus infection.
&ldquo;Every effort will be made to develop Brij Bhumi and there will be no dearth of funds for this. We are looking at a blend of modern technology and the cultural and spiritual heritage for the development of the region,&rdquo; he said.
The priest-turned-politician also complimented Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving a new direction to the country.
Cabinet ministers Laxmi Narain Chaudhary and Shrikant Sharma were also present on the occasion.

The Allahabad High Court, on Monday, asked the Uttar Pradesh government as to why Dr Kafeel Ahmad Khan of BRD medical College, Gorakhpur, is on suspension for the last four years. The court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file a reply in connection with a writ petition filed by Dr Kafeel Ahmad Khan by August 5.
Dr Khan had filed the writ petition challenging his suspension from BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur on August 22, 2017 following the death of around 60 children within a span of 2-3 days due to the lack of oxygen supply.

The Allahabad High Court, on Monday, asked the Uttar Pradesh government as to why Dr Kafeel Ahmad Khan of BRD medical College, Gorakhpur, is on suspension for the last four years. The court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file a reply in connection with a writ petition filed by Dr Kafeel Ahmad Khan by August 5.
Dr Khan had filed the writ petition challenging his suspension from BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur on August 22, 2017 following the death of around 60 children within a span of 2-3 days due to the lack of oxygen supply.
Dr Khan also mentioned in his plea that as many as eight persons were suspended along with him in this oxygen shortage case but all of them had been reinstated except the petitioner.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for giving a clean chit to an Agra hospital where 22 patients died after oxygen supply was allegedly cut during a drill.
She said that the government has closed all the doors of justice.

The earlier rule stated that Covid-19 patients can be admitted in private hospitals only with referral of the Integrated Covid Command Center. This had led to a huge rush at the centre for referral letters, drawing criticism on social media and the opposition.
In the revised order, the state govt has said that now Covid patients can be admitted in private hospitals on the basis of their test reports.
After admission by private hospitals, they will have to report about the cases immediately on the portal of the state government.

Curtailing the central probe agency&rsquo;s powers to probe cases in the state, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday withdrew the 'general consent' granted to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The probe agency will now have to approach the Uddhav government for permission to initiate the investigation on a case by case basis. The development comes a after the CBI registered an FIR in the TRP &lsquo;scam&rsquo; case based on a reference from the Uttar Pradesh Police. The case, which was earlier registered at Hazratganj police station in Lucknow on a complaint of an advertising company promoter, was handed over to the CBI by the UP government. On October 8, the Mumbai police had claimed it had busted a 'racket' of 'fraudulent' manipulation of Television Rating Points involving three channels including Arnab Goswami&rsquo;s Republic TV.
