The group has claimed most of the attacks on US forces carried between mid-October and early February.
Following a series of rocket attacks and drone strikes by pro-Iran armed factions against US soldiers deployed in the Middle East over the winter, there had been several weeks of calm.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has said it is acting in solidarity with Palestinians and out of anger at US support for Israel in the Gaza war.
The United States has around 2,500 soldiers stationed in Iraq and nearly 900 across the border in Syria as part of an international coalition created in 2014 to fight the Islamic State group (IS).
Sunday night's rocket attack came against the background of increasing tension in the region, with a flare-up between Iran and Israel.
Early on Saturday, an explosion at an Iraqi military base killed one person and wounded eight others.
Security forces said the blast hit the Kalsu military base in Babylon province south of Baghdad, where regular army, police and members of Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces, or Hashed al-Shaabi, are stationed.
CENTCOM, the US military command in the region, denied involvement in a strike there. The Israeli army refused to comment.

The counter rocket, artillery, and mortar systems, which were used to fend off a rocket attack on the airport on Monday, were kept online until the last minute and then demilitarized, US media reports said quoting Gen McKenzie.
The general further explained that demilitarized equipment included 70 mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles "that will never again be used by anyone," 27 Humvees "that will never be driven again," and 73 aircraft that "will never fly again."
Even though the Taliban may not be able to use most of it, the group now has billions of dollars worth of high-tech US war-fighting equipment, including helicopters, planes and hundreds of thousands of guns.

Asked about military equipment left behind at the airport, the head of US Central Command, Gen Frank McKenzie said that some was brought out, adding that other systems, were "demilitarized," meaning US forces purposely broke them to prevent them from being used.
The counter rocket, artillery, and mortar systems, which were used to fend off a rocket attack on the airport on Monday, were kept online until the last minute and then demilitarized, US media reports said quoting Gen McKenzie.
The general further explained that demilitarized equipment included 70 mine-resistant ambush protected vehicles "that will never again be used by anyone," 27 Humvees "that will never be driven again," and 73 aircraft that "will never fly again."
Even though the Taliban may not be able to use most of it, the group now has billions of dollars worth of high-tech US war-fighting equipment, including helicopters, planes and hundreds of thousands of guns.
The Taliban had recently released videos of its fighters flaunting hi-tech American weapons that they seized after taking over Kabul.

They have our enduring gratitude and respect.&rdquo; &ldquo;With the departure of our military &amp; those of the many partners who stood with us, Afghans face a moment of decision &amp; opportunity. Their country's future is in their hands. They will choose their path in full sovereignty. This is the chance to bring their war to an end as well,&rdquo; he said.
&ldquo;The Taliban now face a test. Can they lead their country to a safe &amp; prosperous future where all their citizens, men &amp; women, have the chance to reach their potential? Can Afghanistan present the beauty &amp; power of its diverse cultures, histories, &amp; traditions to the world?&rdquo; he said in another tweet.
Gen McKenzie said no American civilian was in the last flight.
&ldquo;While the military evacuation is complete, the diplomatic mission to ensure additional US citizens and eligible Afghans, who want to leave, continues. Tonight's withdrawal signifies both the end of the military component of the evacuation, but also the end of the nearly 20-year mission that began in Afghanistan shortly after September 11, 2001. It's a mission that brought Osama bin Laden to a just end, along with many of his al Qaeda co conspirators," he said.
