In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old Indian man, who came to the US less than a year ago, was fatally shot during a robbery at a convenience store in the US state of Texas.
Dasari Gopikrishna sustained critical injuries during a robbery incident at a gas station convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas, on June 21.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday while undergoing treatment.
He hailed from the Yajali village of the Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh and came to the US only eight months ago.
India's Consul General in Houston, D C Manjunath, who was in Dallas for a Yoga Day event on Sunday, confirmed to PTI that the incident was unrelated to a shooting in Arkansas, as previously reported by various sources.
Expressing condolences to Gopikrishna's family, Manjunath said, "We are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic demise of Indian national Gopi Krishna Dasari in a robbery shooting incident at Pleasant Grove, Dallas, TX, and are in touch with local family members." The Consulate, along with support from Indian associations, is providing all possible assistance to facilitate the repatriation of Gopikrishna's body to India following local formalities, including autopsy and death certificates.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday promised to help bring back Gopikrishna's body.
Expressing condolences to the victim's family, the chief minister promised every possible help from the state government to the family based in the Bapatla district.
"Deeply saddened to learn that a young Dasari Gopikrishna from Bapatla has succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting incident in Texas, USA. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and assure them&hellip;every possible support to help bring him home,&rdquo; Naidu said in a post on social media platform X.
A video of the incident has gone viral in which a masked man wearing shorts and a cap is seen shooting multiple times at Gopikrishna and then stealing some items and cash from the retail outlet where the victim worked.
The incident has deeply affected the Indian community in Dallas and surrounding areas. Gopikrishna is survived by his wife and son.

Police in Los Angeles have released body-cam footage of an incident in which officers shot and killed a man holding a plastic fork.
One of the police involved in the February 3 shooting in a warehouse in downtown Los Angeles is under investigation to determine if the officer complied with rules on use of deadly force, authorities said Tuesday.
The man who was shot has been identified as Jason Lee Maccani, age 36.
The footage released Tuesday shows a man being confronted by half a dozen police officers in the corridor of a building.
They tell the man to approach them with his arms raised, and at first he seems to comply.
But he fails to stop moving and keeps walking with his hands clenched in fists, holding an object that the officers said they thought was a screwdriver.
Officers tried to subdue him but failed, police said in a statement.
In the video, the man is seen approaching the police when shots are heard.
"The suspect grabbed one of the officers and the Beanbag Shotgun she was holding, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting," it said.
Police went to the building after someone called an emergency number to report an "assault with a deadly weapon" in a warehouse.
The caller said this person was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and threatening employers with a stick.
Maccani died in a nearby hospital. None of the warehouse employees or police were hurt.

A woman was killed in Texas' Houston on Sunday -- on a day the majority of the US brimmed with anticipation for Super Bowl LVIII -- after opening fire at a megachurch run by prominent evangelical Christian pastor Joel Osteen, the city's police chief said.
Two people were shot during the shooting. Among them, a child aged about five is in critical condition while a 57-year-old man shot in the hip is stable, said Troy Finner -- the city police chief.
In a post on X late in the afternoon, Lakewood Church said there was an active shooter situation that included shots being fired and law enforcement arriving on the scene.
The woman -- in her early 30s and wearing a long trench coat, holding a long rifle and a backpack -- entered the church, accompanied by a boy, believed to be about five years old, and started shooting, Finner said.
Two off-duty law enforcement officers who were at the church when the shots were fired at 1.50 pm opened fire and killed the woman, he added.
The woman's identity has not yet been revealed.
If law enforcement gunfire is responsible for striking the child, Finner said "I'm going to put that blame on her" for putting the boy in danger.
At the press conference, Osteen said he would pray for both the victims and the shooter, saying he was grateful the shooting happened between services when fewer people were in the building.
The police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no further danger to the public.
The woman threatened that she had a bomb and sprayed an unknown substance as first responders arrived, the police chief said.
It is still not clear what the substance was, as fire department personnel arrived to investigate and clear the scene, he added.
The police checked a vehicle and backpack for possible explosives but none have been reported.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire lamented that the violence took place while people were preparing to practise their faith and others looked forward to the Super Bowl encounter between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
"We find ourselves gathered here to respond to this tragedy," he said.
In a statement, Governor Greg Abbott said, "Our hearts are with those impacted by today's tragic shooting and the entire Lakewood Church community in Houston. Places of worship are sacred." Abbott said he offered "full support and resources of the State of Texas" to Whitmire "to help this community and help bring swift justice to the criminal who committed this crime".

The attack just before noon on Wednesday sent police swarming onto the campus, which is just a couple of miles from the world-famous Las Vegas Strip while students barricaded themselves in classrooms. Authorities gave the all-clear about 40 minutes after the first report of an active shooter.
Police haven't released the identity of the shooter or the motive for the attack. The shootings took place in a city still scarred by an October 2017 attack by a gunman at the Mandalay Bay casino that killed 60 people and wounded hundreds more.
Police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that three people were killed and a fourth person was in critical condition at a hospital. Authorities didn't immediately provide additional information but planned to give further updates at a news conference scheduled for 5 pm PT.
Alerts went out across the campus after callers reported an active shooter to police at 11:45 am Wednesday, said Adam Garcia, a university police official. He said officers found and &ldquo;engaged&rdquo; a suspect, who is now dead. It was not immediately clear how the suspect died.
Students and professors on the campus of 30,000 barricaded themselves inside classrooms and dorm rooms.
Student John Harris heard what he later realized was a gunshot as he was getting out of his car in the parking garage of an on-campus apartment complex. In the elevator, Harris said he got an emergency text alert text from the university.

When another professor came to the room and told everyone to evacuate, they joined dozens of others rushing out of the building. Martin had her students piled into her car and drove them off campus.
&ldquo;Once we got away from UNLV, we parked and sat in silence,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;Nobody said a word. We were in utter shock.&rdquo; The university said on X that the shooter was at the Beam Hall, Frank and Estella Building, home of UNLV's Lee Business School, and that police were responding to an additional report of shots fired at the nearby student union.
Las Vegas police posted on X that a suspect &ldquo;has been located and is deceased&rdquo; about 40 minutes after the initial alert was posted.
Students and the community were alerted to the emergency by a university post on X.
&ldquo;This is not a test,&rdquo; the university wrote. &ldquo;RUN-HIDE-FIGHT.&rdquo; Student Matthew Felsenfeld said he and about 12 classmates barricaded their door in a building near the student union.
&ldquo;It's the moment you call your parents and tell them you love them,&rdquo; said Felsenfeld, a 21-year-old journalism student.
He said he didn't hear gunfire or see anyone injured but said he saw out the windows as police staged to enter the neighboring building. a short while later, police came and ushered them out.
Pierre Lescure, a UNLV senior, was riding his bicycle from home to campus for a meeting when he said about 10 police cars drove pass him.
&ldquo;They drove too fast and there was no ambulance, just cops. It was clearly a shooting,&rdquo; Lescure said. &ldquo;It could not be something else.&rdquo; UNLV's 332-acre campus is less than two miles east of the Las Vegas Strip.
In response to the campus shootings, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop of all flights coming into Harry Reid International Airport. The university is roughly three kilometres north of the airport.
Tony Molinaro, an FAA spokesperson, referred a request to comment to Las Vegas law enforcement.
Classes were cancelled at the university, and UNLV's basketball game at the University of Dayton, Ohio, was cancelled Wednesday night because of the Las Vegas shootings.

Five people, including one female and four male victims aged between 18 and 22, have been shot.
According to authorities, the injuries are not life-threatening. The shooting happened when students were heading to a coronation ball following an event to crown Mister &amp; Miss Morgan State.
A shelter-in-place order was issued as police went room to room in search of the suspects. No arrests have been announced by police yet.
