The businesses were added to an "entity list," which requires US companies to have a license before exporting to them.
"Human rights abuses are contrary to the foreign policy interests of the United States," said Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security Alan Estevez in a statement.
Adding these companies to the entity list aims to "ensure that US technology is not used to enable human rights violations and abuses," he added.
A man who answered a call to a cellphone number associated with Beijing Zhongdun hung up after an AFP reporter identified himself.
Calls to two numbers associated with Zhejiang Uniview went unanswered.
The US government and lawmakers in several other Western countries have taken aim at China's treatment of the Uyghur minority in the northwestern Xinjiang region.

The dead included two children, ages 2 and 5, the sheriff said. Storms also destroyed a nearby truck stop where dozens of people had rushed to take shelter.
The dead in Texas included three family members who were found in one home near the small community of Valley View, Sappington said.
Officials said multiple people were transported to hospitals by ambulance and helicopter in the Texas county of Denton, but they did not immediately know the full extent of the injuries.
At least two people were reported killed in Arkansas, including a 26-year-old woman who was found dead outside a destroyed home in Olvey, a small community in Boone County, according to Daniel Bolen, with the county's Office of Emergency Management.

The destruction continued a grim month of deadly severe weather in the nation's midsection.

The agency also reported extensive damage from baseball-sized hail and multiple injuries at an outdoor wedding that was being held in rural Woods County.
Meteorologists and authorities issued urgent warnings to seek cover as the storms marched across the region overnight. &ldquo;If you are in the path of this storm take cover now!&rdquo; the National Weather Service office in Norman posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In Texas, the Denton Fire Department posted on social media that emergency crews near Dallas were responding to a marina &ldquo;for multiple victims, some reported trapped.&rdquo; Inaccessible roads and downed power lines in Oklahoma also led officials in the town of Claremore, near Tulsa, to announce on social media that the city was &ldquo;shut down&rdquo; due to the damage.

The US has transferred more than 5,000 AK-47s, rocket launchers and hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition seized from Iran to Ukraine as it tries to defend against Russia, the US Central Command has announced.
Ukraine has been facing severe shortages of weapons and munitions on the battlefield in its raging war against Russia, with the US unable to send more equipment from its stockpiles until more funding is approved by the much-divided Congress.
On April 4, 2024, the US government transferred over 5,000 AK-47s, machine guns, sniper rifles, RPG-7s and over 500,000 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces, CENTCOM said.
It said the material transferred to Ukraine is enough to equip one Ukrainian brigade &mdash; around 4,000 personnel &mdash; with small-arms rifles.
&ldquo;These weapons will help Ukraine defend against Russia&rsquo;s invasion,&rdquo; CENTCOM said in a statement on Tuesday.
The US government obtained ownership of these munitions on December 1, 2023, through the Department of Justice&rsquo;s civil forfeiture claims against Iran&rsquo;s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The munitions were originally seized by the US military and its partners &ldquo;from four separate transiting stateless vessels between 22 May 2021 to 15 Feb 2023,&rdquo; the statement said.
The US transferred over one million rounds of seized Iranian ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces in October, CNN reported.
Over the past year, the US Navy has seized thousands of Iranian assault rifles and more than one million rounds of ammunition from vessels used by Iran to ship weapons to the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The seizures, frequently carried out with regional partner forces, target small stateless vessels on routes historically used to smuggle weapons to the Houthis.
For the last year, the Biden administration has been working to legally send the seized weapons, which are stored in CENTCOM facilities across the Middle East, to the Ukrainian military.
The munitions were being transferred from the IRGC to the Houthis in Yemen in violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216.
"U.S. CENTCOM is committed to working with our allies and partners to counter the flow of Iranian lethal aid in the region by all lawful means including U.S. and U.N. sanctions and through interdictions.
"Iran&rsquo;s support for armed groups threatens international and regional security, our forces, diplomatic personnel, and citizens in the region, as well as those of our partners. President Joe Biden and likely Republican challenger Donald Trump arrived Thursday in Texas, some 300 miles apart, for dueling trips to the U.S.-Mexico border in a sign of how central immigration has become to the 2024 election and how much each man wants to use it to his advantage.
Each chose an optimal location to underscore his points.
Biden, who wants to spotlight how Republicans tanked a bipartisan border security deal on Trump's orders, went to the Rio Grande Valley city of Brownsville. For nine years, this was the busiest corridor for illegal crossings, but they have dropped sharply in recent months.
&ldquo;Brownsville, Texas, is a very good glimpse of how dynamic and challenging that migration phenomenon is," Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said from Air Force One.

The number of people who are illegally crossing the U.S. border has been rising for years for complicated reasons that include climate change, war and unrest in other nations, the economy, and cartels that see migration as a cash cow.
The administration's approach has been to pair crackdowns at the border with increasing legal pathways for migrants designed to steer people into arriving by plane with sponsors, not illegally on foot to the border.
Arrests for illegal crossings fell by half in January, but there were record highs in December. The numbers of migrants flowing across the U.S-Mexico border have far outpaced the capacity of an immigration system that has not been substantially updated in decades. Trump and Republicans claim Biden is refusing to act, but absent law change from Congress, any major policies are likely to be challenged or held up in court.
Trump landed to cheers from a crowd gathered at the small airport who held signs that read: &ldquo;Trump 2024.&rdquo; Some yelled, &ldquo;Way to go, Trump.&rdquo; He chatted with supporters for a few minutes before getting into his waiting SUV.

Democrats say the charges amount to a policy dispute, not the &ldquo;high crimes and misdemeanors&rdquo; laid out as a bar for impeachment in the Constitution.
Since the president was last at the border a year ago, the debate over immigration in Washington has shifted further to the right. Democrats have become increasingly eager to embrace border restrictions now that migrants are sleeping in police stations and airplane hangars in major cities.
During bipartisan talks on an immigration deal that would have toughened access for migrants, Biden himself said he'd be willing to &ldquo;shut down the border&rdquo; right now, should the deal pass.
The talks looked promising for a while. But Trump, who didn't want to give Biden a political win on one of his signature campaign issues, convinced Republicans to kill the deal. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., declared the deal dead on arrival.
Biden vowed to make sure everyone knew why.
&ldquo;Every day, between now and November, the American people are gonna know that the only reason the border is not secure is Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends,&rdquo; Biden said earlier this month, referring to the former president's Make America Great Again slogan.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the president would meet with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, law enforcement officials, frontline personnel and local leaders during his trip to Texas.
Trump will speak and be interviewed by Fox News' Sean Hannity from Shelby Park, an expanse along the Rio Grande owned by the city of Eagle Pass. It was taken over last month by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who then banned Border Patrol agents from operating there. The Biden administration sued, and the U.S. Supreme Court allowed federal agents to cut the razor wire encircling the park, but Abbott has since put more up in a defiant move that challenges federal authority.
While there, Trump is expected to lay out updated immigration proposals that would mark a dramatic escalation of the approach he used in office and that drew alarms from civil rights activists and numerous court challenges.
Some of those include reviving and expanding his controversial travel ban, imposing "ideological screening&rdquo; for migrants, terminating all work permits and cutting off funding for shelter and transportation for people who are in the country illegally. Trump also is likely to bring up the killing of a 22-year-old nursing student in Georgia. The suspect is a Venezuelan migrant.
&ldquo;Biden is preposterously trying to blame me and Congressional Republicans for the national security and public safety disaster he has created,&rdquo; Trump wrote in an op-ed in the British newspaper The Daily Mail. &ldquo;He created this catastrophe.&nbsp;

Tate County Youth Court Judge Rusty Harlow handed down the sentence Tuesday after the child's lawyer reached an agreement with a special prosecutor.
The prosecution threatened to upgrade the charge of &ldquo;child in need of supervision&rdquo; to a more serious charge of disorderly conduct if the boy's family took the case to trial, said Carlos Moore, the child's attorney.
&ldquo;I thought any sensible judge would dismiss the charge completely. It's just asinine," Moore said. "There were failures in the criminal justice system all the way around.&rdquo; The child's mother has said her son urinated behind her vehicle while she was visiting a lawyer's office in Senatobia, Mississippi, on August 10. Police officers in the town of about 8,100 residents, 40 miles (64 kilometers) south of Memphis, Tennessee, saw the child urinating and arrested him. Officers put him in a squad car and took him to the police station.
Senatobia Police Chief Richard Chandler said the child was not handcuffed, but his mother said he was put in a jail cell, according to NBCNews.com.
Days after the episode, Chandler said the officers violated their training on how to deal with children. He said one of the officers who took part in the arrest was &ldquo; no longer employed,&rdquo; and other officers would be disciplined. He didn't specify whether the former officer was fired or quit, or what type of discipline the others would face.
Chandler did not immediately respond to a voicemail message Thursday. Reached by phone, a staffer for Paige Williams, the Tate County Youth Court prosecutor appointed to handle the case, said the attorney could not comment on cases involving juveniles.

It was initially unclear whether prosecutors would take up the case. Moore said he had planned on going to trial, but shifted strategy after prosecutors threatened to upgrade the charges and the child's family chose to accept the probation sentence because it would not appear on the boy's criminal record.
The 10-year-old is required to check in with a probation officer once per month.
Moore said he doesn't believe a white child would have been arrested under similar circumstances.
&ldquo;I don't think there is a male in America who has not discreetly urinated in public,&rdquo; Moore said.

When her role in a highly publicized Cabinet shakeup became known, she was forced to declare publicly, "I am not running the government." Many presidential aides insisted that her political instincts were better than her husband's &mdash; they often enlisted her support for a project before they discussed it with the president. Her iron will, contrasted with her outwardly shy demeanour and a soft Southern accent, inspired Washington reporters to call her "the Steel Magnolia." Both Carters said in their later years that Rosalynn had always been the more political of the two. After Jimmy Carter's landslide defeat in 1980, it was she, not the former president, who contemplated an implausible comeback, and years later she confessed to missing their life in Washington.
Jimmy Carter trusted her so much that in 1977, only months into his term, he sent her on a mission to Latin America to tell dictators he meant what he said about denying military aid and other support to violators of human rights.
She also had strong feelings about the style of the Carter White House. The Carters did not serve hard liquor at public functions, though Rosalynn did permit US wine. There were fewer evenings of ballroom dancing and more square dancing and picnics.
Throughout her husband's political career, she chose mental health and problems of the elderly as her signature policy emphasis. When the news media didn't cover those efforts as much as she believed was warranted, she criticized reporters for writing only about "sexy subjects." As honorary chairwoman of the President's Commission on Mental Health, she once testified before a Senate subcommittee, becoming the first lady since Eleanor Roosevelt to address a congressional panel. She was back in Washington in 2007 to push Congress for improved mental health coverage, saying, "We've been working on this for so long, it finally seems to be in reach." She said she developed her interest in mental health during her husband's campaigns for Georgia governor.
"I used to come home and say to Jimmy, 'Why are people telling me their problems?' And he said, 'Because you may be the only person they'll ever see who may be close to someone who can help them,'" she explained.
After Ronald Reagan won the 1980 election, Rosalynn Carter seemed more visibly devastated than her husband. She initially had little interest in returning to the small town of Plains, Georgia, where they both were born, married and spent most of their lives.
"I was hesitant, not at all sure that I could be happy here after the dazzle of the White House and the years of stimulating political battles," she wrote in her 1984 autobiography, "First Lady from Plains." But "we slowly rediscovered the satisfaction of a life we had left long before." After leaving Washington, Jimmy and Rosalynn co-founded The Carter Center in Atlanta to continue their work. She chaired the center's annual symposium on mental health issues and raised funds for efforts to aid the mentally ill and homeless. She also wrote "Helping Yourself Help Others," about the challenges of caring for elderly or ailing relatives, and a sequel, "Helping Someone With Mental Illness." Frequently, the Carters left home on humanitarian missions, building houses with Habitat for Humanity and promoting public health and democracy across the developing world.
"I get tired," she said of her travels. "But something so wonderful always happens. To go to a village where they have Guinea worm and go back a year or two later and there's no Guinea worm, I mean the people dance and sing &mdash; it's so wonderful." In 2015, Jimmy Carter's doctors discovered four small tumours on his brain. The Carters feared he had weeks to live. He was treated with a drug to boost his immune system and later announced that doctors found no remaining signs of cancer. But when they first received the news, she said she didn't know what she was going to do.
"I depend on him when I have questions, when I'm writing speeches, anything, I consult with him," she said.
She helped Carter recover several years later when he had hip replacement surgery at age 94 and had to learn to walk again. And she was with him earlier this year when he decided after a series of hospital stays that he would forgo further medical interventions and begin end-of-life care.
Jimmy Carter is the longest-lived US president. Rosalynn Carter was the second longest-lived of the nation's first ladies, trailing only Bess Truman, who died at age 97.
Eleanor Rosalynn Smith was born in Plains on August 18, 1927, the eldest of four children. Her father died when she was young, so she took on much of the responsibility of caring for her siblings when her mother went to work part-time.
She also contributed to the family income by working after school in a beauty parlor. "We were very poor and worked hard," she once said, but she kept up her studies, graduating from high school as class valedictorian.
She soon fell in love with the brother of one of her best friends. Jimmy and Rosalynn had known each other all their lives &mdash; it was Jimmy's mother, nurse Lillian Carter, who delivered baby Rosalynn &mdash; but he left for the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, when she was still in high school.
After a blind date, Jimmy told his mother: "That's the girl I want to marry." They wed in 1946, shortly after his graduation from Annapolis and Rosalynn's graduation from Georgia Southwestern College.
Their sons were born where Jimmy Carter was stationed: John William (Jack) in Portsmouth, Virginia, in 1947; James Earl III (Chip) in Honolulu in 1950; and Donnel Jeffery (Jeff) in New London, Connecticut, in 1952. Amy was born in Plains in 1967. By then, Carter was a state senator.
Navy life had provided Rosalynn her first chance to see the world. When Carter's father, James Earl Sr., died in 1953, Jimmy Carter decided, without consulting his wife, to move the family back to Plains, where he took over the family farm. She joined him there in the day-to-day operations, keeping the books and weighing fertilizer trucks.
"We developed a partnership when we were working in the farm supply business," Rosalynn Carter recalled with pride in a 2021 interview with The Associated Press. "I knew more on paper about the business than he did. He would take my advice about things." At the height of the Carters' political power, Lillian Carter said of her daughter-in-law: "She can do anything in the world with Jimmy, and she's the only one. He listens to her."

The woman reportedly plans to go through with her pregnancy as long as both she and her children remain healthy.
A doctor from the University of Alabama noted that while the condition was rare, being pregnant in both uteruses at the same time is no short of an anomaly. It has a one-in-a-million chance, as per Dr Richard Davis.
&ldquo;I think I've only read of two other cases [in which] they've had [pregnancies] in completely separate uteruses, and no one that I've been able to reach out to,&rdquo; the woman, identified as Kelsey Hatcher, said.

The pilot of the F-35, who has not been named, ejected from the aircraft and landed safely. The plane, however, went on and crashed in Williamsburg County, about two hours northeast of Joint Base Charleston.
&ldquo;The mishap is currently under investigation, and we are unable to provide additional details to preserve the integrity of the investigative process,&rdquo; the Marine Corps said in a news release on Monday evening.

The pilot ejected and parachuted safely into a North Charleston neighbourhood at about 2 PM. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was in stable condition, said Major Melanie Salinas. The pilot&rsquo;s name has not been released.

As hurricane Lee is about to make landfall in parts of the USA, fishermen anchored the boats and abandoned the harbors.

Fishermen removed lobster traps from the water and residents hauled hundreds of boats ashore &mdash; leaving some harbours looking like ghost towns &mdash; while utility workers from as far away as Tennessee began taking up positions Friday ahead of Hurricane Lee's heavy winds, high seas and rain that's expected to span hundreds of kilometers of land and sea.
The storm is projected to be more than 640 kilometers wide with tropical-storm-force winds when it reaches land, creating worries of power outages in Maine, the nation's most heavily forested state, where the ground is saturated and trees are weakened from heavy summer rains.
Lee remained a hurricane with 128 kph winds at night as it headed toward New England and eastern Canada with 6-metre ocean swells, strong winds and rain. Forecasters said there would be winds topping 64 kph across the region, with peak winds reaching upward of 104 kph, ahead of landfall expected Saturday afternoon.
There was little else to be done but wait and worry, and make final preparations as Lee spun about 485 kilometers southeast of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
In Bar Harbor, there were only two lobster boats in the water compared with 20 to 25 on a normal day. Lobsterman Bruce Young said his 12-metre vessel was transported to the local airport, saying it's better to be safe than sorry. "There's going to be huge white rollers coming in on top of 50 to 60 mph winds. It'll be quite entertaining," he said.
On Long Island, commercial lobster fisherman Steve Train had just finished hauling 200 traps out of the water. Train, who is also a firefighter, was going to wait out the storm on the island in Casco Bay.
He was not concerned about staying there in the storm. "Not one bit," he said.
In South Thomaston, Dave Cousens, who lost fishing gear when Hurricane Bob came through in 1991, said lobstermen were busy moving their traps, which cost USD 100 to USD 170 apiece, out of harm's way to try to avoid damage from the rough seas.
While landfall was projected for nearby Nova Scotia, the Category 1 system was big enough to cause concerns over a wide area even if it weakens to a tropical storm. Parts of coastal Maine could see waves up to 4.5 metres high crashing down, causing erosion and damage, and the strong gusts will cause power outages, said Louise Fode, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Maine. As much as 5 12 centimeters of rain was forecast for eastern Maine, where a flash flood watch was in effect.
In Canada, Ian Hubbard, a meteorologist for Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Canadian Hurricane Centre, said Lee won't be anywhere near the severity of the remnants of Hurricane Fiona, which washed houses into the ocean, knocked out power to most of two provinces and swept a woman into the sea a year ago.
But it was still a dangerous storm. Kyle Leavitt, director of the New Brunswick Emergency Management Organization, urged residents to stay home, saying, "Nothing good can come from checking out the big waves and how strong the wind truly is." Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was convening the incident response group, which meets only to discuss events with major implications for Canada, on Friday. Consisting of Cabinet ministers and senior officials, it was previously convened over events including the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and the record wildfire season this year.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey joined Maine in declaring a state of emergency and asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency to issue a pre-disaster emergency declaration. She also activated up to 50 National Guard members to help with storm preparations, including operating highwater vehicles to respond to flooded areas.
The storm's arrival was expected just days after heavy flooding and tornadoes in New England.
"As we've seen in recent weeks, severe weather is not to be taken lightly. Flooding, wind damage, downed trees, tree limbs &mdash; all these things create real hazards and problems for people," Healey said.
East Hampton, New York, barred swimming &mdash; and, in at least some places, even walking &mdash; on beaches because of dangerous surf. Caution tape was strung up along the edge of the sand at the tony second-home community's picturesque Main Beach, where waves already were roiling Friday afternoon, News12 Long Island video showed.
In Rhode Island, Governor Dan McKee said crews were working to secure the iconic 3.4-metre-tall "Independent Man" statue atop the State House dome. Workers wanted to safeguard the 500-pound statue against the storm's wind and rain after a drone recently captured footage showing damage to the base.
In Maine, where people are accustomed to damaging winter nor'easters, some brushed aside the coming Lee as something akin to those storms only without the snow.
"We fear nor'easters up here more than the remnants of a tropical storm," said Andrea Silverthorne, who works in reception and reservations at the Inn on the Wharf in Lubec, Maine's easternmost town.
Many tourists were caught up in the storm.
Kent Thomas and his wife Robin, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, watched the weather reports closely before deciding to travel to Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park. They're used to big storms back home, so they're going with the flow.
"We'll hunker down like everyone else with the winds and the weather," Kent Thomas said while visiting Bar Harbor. "We have a lot of experience with tropical storms and hurricanes in North Carolina. Power outages and tree damage go with the territory." Destructive hurricanes are relatively rare this far to the north. The Great New England Hurricane of 1938 brought gusts as high as 300 kph and sustained winds of 195 kph at Massachusetts' Blue Hill Observatory. But there have been no storms that powerful in recent years.
The last storm to make landfall in New England as a hurricane was Bob, which tore across Cape Cod and charged northward toward Maine, losing steam and becoming a tropical storm, according to the National Weather Service.
The region learned the hard way with Hurricane Irene in 2011 that damage isn't always confined to the coast. Downgraded to a tropical storm, Irene still caused more than USD 800 million in damage in Vermont.
For this storm, part of Maine was briefly under a hurricane watch for the first time since 2008, for Hurricane Kyle, which skirted eastern Maine. The last hurricane to make landfall in Maine was Hurricane Gerda, which hit Eastport in 1969.&nbsp;

While the dog was difficult to control at first, it was scooped up and taken to the docks of Lake Waban. The dog was later reunited with its family.
Laura Muckerheide, who appeared to be the dog&rsquo;s owner, said that she would be a mess without it. She later thanked officials for &ldquo;reuniting&rdquo; her family.
&ldquo;Firefighters launched their boat and scooped the wayward dog out of the water and then transported across the pond to the Wellesley College docks, where it was reunited with its family,&rdquo; the Wellesley Police Department wrote on Facebook.
