Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Varanasi on Friday, marking the PM's first visit to his parliamentary constituency since the completion of eight years of the Yogi-led state government.&nbsp;
PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 44 development projects valued at ₹3,884.18 crore.
Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi said, "Today, our Honorable Prime Minister is in Kashi. I welcome him on behalf of the people of Kashi and the state."
During the event, the Prime Minister distributed Ayushman Bharat health cards to three senior citizens above 70 years of age, presented GI (Geographical Indications) certificates for three local products, and transferred ₹106 crore as a bonus to dairy farmers associated with Banas Dairy (Amul).
Reflecting on recent political achievements, Yogi Adityanath added, "I congratulate PM Modi on the historic victories in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi." He also emphasized the success of the recent Mahakumbh, noting, "The Mahakumbh has been a grand success, with over 3 crore devotees visiting Kashi. The Prime Minister's leadership and guidance have made this possible. The Namami Gange project has also been a huge success, and we're grateful for it."
Highlighting Kashi&rsquo;s infrastructural progress over the past decade, the CM said, "Kashi has undergone significant changes in the last 11 years. We've seen projects worth over 50,000 crores implemented here. Today, we're inaugurating projects worth 4,000 million rupees."
Yogi further spoke about welfare initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and artisans, stating, "We're also providing recognition to local handicraftsmen and artisans through GI Tech certificates. Ayushman Bharat has been a game-changer for the poor, and we're grateful for the Vandana Yojna card, which provides health facilities to the elderly. The Banas Dairy project has been beneficial for farmers and livestock owners in Kashi. We're providing bonuses to cattle owners and supporting farmers through value addition."
The event was attended by notable dignitaries including Governor Anandi Ben Patel, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak, Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shanker Chaudhary, and BJP&rsquo;s Uttar Pradesh President Chaudhary Bhupendra Singh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone and inaugurated a series of development projects worth over ₹3,880 crore in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency. On arrival, he was felicitated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the event venue.
Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi highlighted Varanasi&rsquo;s transformation and the successful organization of Maha Kumbh. &ldquo;Kashi was also a witness to the grand organisation of the Maha Kumbh. Following victories in assembly polls in Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi, and the successful organisation of Maha Kumbh, the Prime Minister has arrived here in Kashi today,&rdquo; CM Yogi said. &ldquo;In the last 11 years under PM Modi's leadership, devotees were excited to visit the new Kashi. During the 45-day (Maha Kumbh), over 3 crore devotees offered prayers at Kashi Vishwanath Temple,&rdquo; he added.
This was PM Modi&rsquo;s first visit to Varanasi after eight years of the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh. Continuing his push for infrastructure development, especially in enhancing road and urban connectivity, the Prime Minister inaugurated and launched several key projects.
These include the foundation stones for a road bridge connecting the Varanasi Ring Road with Sarnath, flyovers at Bhikharipur and Manduadih crossings, and a highway underpass tunnel near Varanasi International Airport, with a combined worth of over ₹980 crore.
PM Modi also launched power infrastructure projects, including two 400 KV and one 220 KV transmission substations across Jaunpur, Chandauli, and Ghazipur. He laid the foundation for additional substations in Varanasi and Ghazipur, along with upgrades to the city&rsquo;s distribution system, totalling over ₹1,820 crore.
For police and security personnel, he inaugurated a transit hostel at the Police Line, barracks at PAC Ramnagar, and initiated new administrative buildings and hostels across stations.
In the education sector, the PM inaugurated the Government Polytechnic College at Pindra, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Government College in Barki, 100 Anganwadi centres, and 356 rural libraries. Renovation work for 77 primary schools and construction of a new Kasturba Gandhi School building in Cholapur were also launched.
To promote sports infrastructure, the Prime Minister laid the foundation for a synthetic hockey turf with floodlights and a mini stadium at Shivpur.
Among civic development projects, PM Modi inaugurated the redevelopment of Samne Ghat and Shastri Ghat on the Ganga, launched 130 rural drinking water schemes worth over ₹345 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and flagged improvements for six municipal wards along with beautification and sculpture installations at various public spaces.
Promoting local enterprise, PM Modi laid the foundation for the MSME Unity Mall for artisans, infrastructure work under the Transport Nagar Scheme at Mohansarai, a 1 MW solar power plant at WTP Bhelupur, and community halls in 40 Gram Panchayats.
Highlighting social welfare, the Prime Minister distributed Ayushman Vay Vandana cards to senior citizens &mdash; marking the first such distribution in over 70 years. He also presented GI (Geographical Indication) certificates to regional products like tabla, painting, thandai, and tiranga barfi, underlining the government&rsquo;s commitment to preserving cultural heritage.
In support of the dairy sector, PM Modi transferred over ₹105 crore in bonuses to milk suppliers in Uttar Pradesh affiliated with Banas Dairy.

A powerful thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rains wreaked havoc across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on Thursday, resulting in significant loss of life, livestock, and property.
In Uttar Pradesh, at least 22 people and 45 animals were killed, while 15 houses sustained damage, according to the State Relief Commissioner's office.
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced ₹4 lakh ex-gratia compensation for the families of the deceased. In an official statement, the government said, "UP government declares Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to kin of deceased in thunderstorm and rain that occurred today.&nbsp;
According to the Office of Relief Commissioner, a total of 22 people and 45 animals died and 15 houses were damaged across the state."
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences and directed prompt relief.

Taking to social media, his office posted on X: "Chief Minister @myogiadityanath Ji has expressed deep condolences on the loss of life due to storm and lightning in the state and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. Maharaj Ji has given instructions to immediately distribute the permissible relief amount of Rs 4 lakhs to the families of those who died in this natural disaster and to provide proper treatment to the injured. Maharaj Ji has also directed the provision of permissible assistance to those affected by animal loss."
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for several districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls are expected in areas including Lucknow, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, and Deoria, among others.
In a parallel tragedy, Bihar&rsquo;s Nalanda district also reported 22 fatalities due to severe weather conditions. According to officials, 21 people died due to thunderstorms, while one person was struck by lightning. Significant damage was reported to homes, livestock, and crops.
District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar confirmed the losses and said that the state government would offer compensation. "A total of 22 people have died; of these, 21 died due to thunderstorms while one died due to lightning. CM has given directions for compensation to all the bereaved, and the directions are being followed. A compensation of Rs 4 Lakh each will be provided for the deceased," the DM told ANI.
He also outlined ongoing recovery and assessment operations. "Tomorrow, our team will assess the loss of houses and crops, after which compensation for the same will be provided. Five livestock also died - 3 buffaloes and 2 cows. So, the losses are also being assessed and process of providing compensation is being undertaken...The injured are being provided medical treatment..."
Efforts to restore normalcy are underway. "All uprooted trees are being cleared on war footing. Almost all of our main routes are cleared. Electricity supply was also hit; more than 350 poles fell, and over 15 transformers suffered losses. The department has formed 42 teams and they have run a drive. We hope everything will be cleared by the morning," Shubhankar added.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Firozabad Vishu Raja said two people were killed due to lightning in the district.
A 30-year-old pregnant woman Lalita Devi was killed after being stuck by lightning in Daulatpur village OF Narkhi area, while a 32-year-old man identified as Padav Veer Singh was killed in Chinari village of Jasrana area.
He said family members of the deceased will be given financial assistance Taking note of the unseasonal rains and hailstorm, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials of the affected districts to carry out relief operations with full urgency and preparedness.
The chief minister instructed district authorities to visit the affected areas, closely monitor relief efforts, and ensure immediate assistance to those impacted by the adverse weather conditions, an official statement issued said.
He directed that a detailed assessment of crop damage be conducted and a report be submitted to the state government promptly.
This will enable the administration to initiate appropriate follow-up action and support for the affected farmers.
The weather office said heavy rains and lightning are likely in Kaushambi, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Lucknow, Barabanki, Raebareli.

In response to allegations involving a senior official, the government took swift action by suspending the then CEO of Invest UP, Abhishek Prakash. Emphasizing transparency and efficiency, the state has now committed to transforming Invest UP into a model agency to streamline the investor experience and remove obstacles in setting up business units across Uttar Pradesh.
Invest UP, established in August 2020 as a successor to Udyog Bandhu, was designed to connect with investors and address their concerns. Since then, it has functioned as the nodal agency driving the state&rsquo;s efforts to boost investments and achieve its goal of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to discuss the roadmap for revamping the agency. The plan includes expanding the team of top executives and operational staff, as well as establishing new offices in strategic locations&mdash;Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
A key highlight of the revamp is the creation of an "industry chasing cell" that will serve as a single-window system for mega investment projects. The collaboration is aimed at strengthening the state&rsquo;s pharmaceutical sector by creating a skilled workforce and fostering industrial growth.
The agreement focuses on leveraging the expertise of the Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology (DoPET) at IIT(BHU), a premier institution known for producing industry-ready graduates.
As per a release issued on Wednesday, &ldquo;The MoU was signed by Mayur Maheshwari, IAS, CEO of UPSIDA, and Prof Rajesh Kumar, dean, research &amp; development, IIT (BHU), marking a beginning of a long-term collaboration that will drive employment, innovation, and industrial progress.&rdquo;
The collaboration will play a crucial role in facilitating the establishment of pharmaceutical industries in the state&rsquo;s pharma parks while ensuring the availability of skilled manpower, training, research, and placement support. The parks are currently being developed by UPSIDA in Lalitpur, Bundelkhand.
Both institutions believe that DoPET students are ideally suited to fulfill the talent requirements of the industries setting up base in the region. This alignment is expected to boost employment opportunities for the state&rsquo;s youth and enhance industrial productivity.
The government of Uttar Pradesh has committed to developing pharma parks across the state to attract national and international pharmaceutical firms. &ldquo;The UP government is committed to establishing pharma parks across the state to attract national and international pharmaceutical companies, promote innovation, and create employment,&rdquo; the release stated.
The pharma cluster in Lalitpur spans 1,472 acres and covers five villages &mdash; Saidpur (426 acres), Gadoli Khurd (249 acres), Largan (239 acres), Karauda (116 acres), and Rampur (441 acres).
To promote local hiring, UPSIDA will offer incentives to pharmaceutical companies that recruit graduates from DoPET. &ldquo;UPSIDA will encourage and incentivize pharma park companies to hire DoPET students. Special campus placement drives and recruitment initiatives will be organized,&rdquo; the release added.
IIT(BHU) will support these efforts by identifying qualified candidates and providing structured placement assistance. &ldquo;IIT(BHU) will provide placement support and help identify suitable candidates. A joint committee will be formed to strategize and implement the placement process. UPSIDA will explore incentives, including tax benefits, for companies that hire DoPET students,&rdquo; the statement said.
The initiative is projected to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, offering youth in the region career growth pathways and industrial exposure closer to home.

The move is set to benefit nearly 16 lakh state employees. Sharing the update on X, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated his administration&rsquo;s commitment to the welfare of government employees.&nbsp;
"In the same sequence, today it has been decided by the Uttar Pradesh Government to increase the Dearness Allowance being given to the State employees at the rate of 53% to 55% from January 1, 2025. Around 16 lakh employees will benefit from this decision. Hearty congratulations to all of you!" he posted.
This announcement from the Uttar Pradesh government follows a similar move by the Centre. On March 28, the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an additional 2% increase in DA and Dearness Relief (DR) for central government employees and pensioners, also effective from January 1, 2025.&nbsp;
"The decision will benefit about 48.66 lakh Central Government employees and 66.55 lakh pensioners," said Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at a press briefing. According to an official statement, the financial impact of this decision is estimated at Rs. 6,614.04 crore annually, aligning with the formula based on the recommendations of the Seventh Central Pay Commission.
Earlier this month, on April 4, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced a 2% hike in DA for the state&rsquo;s employees and pensioners, which will similarly take effect from January 1, 2025.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday approved hike in the daily duty allowance of Prantiya Rakshak Dal (PRD) personnel from Rs 395 to Rs 500.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna told reporters that the current daily allowance of Rs 395 per personnel will be increased by Rs 105, taking it to Rs 500 per day per person.
The revised allowance will come into effect from April 1, 2025.
Following the implementation of this proposal, PRD personnel will receive an increased monthly allowance of Rs 3,150, assuming 30 days of attendance, he said.
Khanna said the move is expected to benefit 34,092 PRD personnel across the state and is part of the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen auxiliary security forces and recognise their contribution to maintaining law and order.
The increase will entail an expenditure of Rs 75.87 crore.

The chief minister while reviewing the functioning of Invest UP said, "By embracing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mantra of Reform, Perform, and Transform, Uttar Pradesh has emerged over the past eight years as the top investment destination in the country. This positive environment must be further enhanced".
Invest UP must function as a model investment promotion and facilitation agency, for which the engagement of sector specialists is essential, an official statement quoted Adityanath as saying.
"We must have industry specialists for every sector, who, through their experience and expertise, can communicate and coordinate effectively with global industries, bringing increased investment into the state," he added.
The chief minister noted that although an online front-end single-window system has been established and is benefiting entrepreneurs, investors still face challenges in obtaining approvals from various departments.
He pointed out that different authorities issue no-objection certificates (NOCs) based on the category of investment, and this system requires improvement.
"There should be a truly integrated single-window system," he said.
He directed that the 'Nivesh Mitra' platform be restructured to ensure that applications are not redirected to other departments.
"All departments should be integrated. Every application must be resolved within a set timeframe, and if not addressed on time, deemed approvals should be granted," he added.
Adityanath also pitched for the implementation of a Single Window Act, under which large investments would receive unified approvals from the Department of Industrial Development.
"Every investor is important to us. Their convenience and security are our responsibility," he noted.
He further said that new policies should be introduced in line with Uttar Pradesh's potential and the evolving global industrial landscape. The Department of Industrial Development has been asked to promptly prepare and present policies for Global Capacity Centers, footwear and leather, the service sector, fintech and financial services, and biotechnology.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the economic impact of frequent elections. "Frequent elections impact the GDP and halt the growth rate. It acts as a barrier to ongoing development projects and reduces the appeal of elections among people. No party benefits from this, except the anti-democratic elements who want to create political instability," he said.
CM Yogi further emphasized how repeated electoral processes could weaken democratic engagement. "In a democracy, elections and people choosing a public representative of their choice are considered a democratic right. For this right, the proper functioning of democracy is essential. But when elections take place every six months, every year, the appeal for elections disappears," he remarked.

"UP has been a sacred land of Jain Tirthankaras, where the tradition of spirituality and religion was carried forward," he said while addressing a grand event on the occasion of World Navkar Mahamantra Day at the Sangeet Natak Akademi in Gomti Nagar here.
"The state has a deep connection with Jain heritage. All of us should adopt the teachings of Jainism in our daily lives," he added.
"Lord Rishabhdev, the first Jain Tirthankara, was born in Ayodhya. Five Tirthankaras were born in Ayodhya, and another in Kashi," he said, underscoring the religious significance of the region.
The event was organised by the Jain International Trade Organization (JITO) with a focus on promoting peace, energy, positivity, and global welfare through the chanting of the Navkar Mantra.
He also referred to an inspiring message delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing, in which the PM outlined nine resolutions to bring the Namokar Mantra into practical life.
"These resolutions are worth adopting by every individual," he said.
Extending greetings on the occasion of Lord Mahavir Jayanti, CM Yogi urged people to spread the message of non-violence and compassion taught by Jainism.
Describing the Navkar Mantra as a powerful spiritual tool, he said, "This mantra is a means of liberation from physical, divine, and spiritual sufferings. When one connects with the spirit of penance, self-purification, and the welfare of the world, one not only uplifts oneself but becomes an inspiration for others as well." He said that the lives of all 24 Jain Tirthankaras were dedicated to the welfare of humanity.
"Through their teachings and penance, they established a noble path of living, which remains relevant even today. Every Indian should draw inspiration from these ideals and incorporate them into their lives," he said.
Hailing the event as historic, CM Yogi said this was the first time World Navkar Mahamantra Day was celebrated simultaneously across the globe, establishing Jain values on an international platform. He expressed hope that this global initiative would inspire countless people to embrace peace and harmony.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday said it is set to take its flagship One District One Product (ODOP) scheme to unprecedented heights in 2025-26 and has finalised category-wise budget allocations to enhance its effectiveness.
With a comprehensive and visionary action plan in place, the initiative aims to deepen the impact of entrepreneurship, self-employment, and skill development across the state, an official statement said.
"The new roadmap includes provisions for financing for self-employment, skill upgradation, and toolkits, ensuring holistic support to local artisans and entrepreneurs.
"This strengthened ODOP model is expected to create vast employment opportunities and reinforce Uttar Pradesh's emergence as a key player on the nation's economic map," the UP government said.
Targets will be set for each district, and pending cases will be renewed and forwarded to banks for the 2024-25 period, it said.
Additionally, disbursal will be ensured for loans that have been approved but not yet distributed. Under the scheme, 20 per cent of the annual target will be approved and distributed, it added.
"Beneficiaries who successfully established enterprises through the first phase of loans will now be eligible for a second loan. A new system will be introduced by amending the government policy to provide these loans. This initiative will particularly benefit entrepreneurs who have made significant strides with limited resources," it added.
The government said that to further elevate the ODOP program, the government is working towards getting the ODOP 2.0 action plan approved.
Building on previous experiences, current schemes will be simplified. The inauguration of Common Facility Center (CFC) projects in Unnao, Bijnor, and Gonda is planned, with new projects also in the pipeline.
The ODOP scheme will be expanded to include new aspects of branding, packaging, marketing, and quality enhancement. With the support of sectoral experts, the state's special products will be promoted on both national and international platforms.
Additionally, efforts are underway to integrate traditional food items from various districts into the formal economy, it said.
The scheme has allocated a budget for training, toolkits, and skill upgradation. District-wise annual targets will be set, and trainees will be selected through the e-portal. The list of beneficiaries will be shared with selected training institutes for further action, it added.

In a significant step towards boosting renewable energy, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced detailed guidelines for allocating reservoirs and dams to developers for the establishment of floating solar power plants.&nbsp;
These guidelines have been issued under the Solar Energy Policy-2022 and will be implemented by the irrigation and water resources department. Developers can submit their applications online starting Tuesday, with April 30 set as the last date.
&ldquo;In the first phase, we have invited online applications through a dedicated portal for the allotment of six of the 35 identified water bodies across the state. These six floating solar plants will produce 440 MW of green power,&rdquo; said Narendra Singh, project officer at the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).
The reservoirs selected for the initial phase include Barusagar, Dukma, and Pathrai dams in Jhansi, the Gunta dam in Chitrakoot, and the Upper Khajuri dam in Mirzapur.
The state government issued a notification on March 14 identifying 35 water bodies as potential sites for floating solar projects. These locations will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Each dam or reservoir is expected to support solar generation capacities ranging between 100 and 1000 MW. For smaller reservoirs, up to 200 MW of total capacity will be made fully available.
&ldquo;We expect availability around 7,000 to 10,000 megawatt (MW) solar power once floating solar plants are set up at all the 35 sites identified,&rdquo; a senior UPNEDA official added.
The policy aims to boost participation from public sector undertakings (PSUs) and joint ventures involving central and state government entities. While private developers are also eligible to apply through the designated portal, PSUs will be given preference in the case of a tie in merit.
&ldquo;Financially, developers must demonstrate a minimum net worth of ₹1 crore per MW and submit a bank guarantee of ₹1 lakh per MW (valid for six months). Required documentation includes a pre-feasibility report, audit and financial records, a project implementation timeline, and at least three years of technical data,&rdquo; said the official, quoting the guidelines.
To ensure timely project delivery, the guidelines include strict timelines for each phase. Letters of intent will be issued within 10 days of allotment, while developers must secure conditional contract approval within six months. Projects up to 1000 MW must be commissioned within 24 months, and those above that capacity within 30 months.
&ldquo;Besides, developers must deposit 5% of the project cost as a performance bank guarantee. Delays beyond the stipulated timeline may attract penalties, though an extension of up to two months is permitted. The state will provide technical assistance for site selection, and a state-level committee will serve as the final decision-making authority,&rdquo; the guidelines state.

Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh said the campaign will include benefits from both the PM and CM Awas Yojna, in addition to a separate housing scheme for those not covered under either. &ldquo;The CM had allocated ₹200 crore for this special housing scheme,&rdquo; he said.
Other schemes to be integrated into the campaign include Ayushman Bharat, Antyodaya ration cards, pensions, skilling programs, and the CM Yuva Udyami Yojna. Singh explained that the government is using the multi-dimensional poverty index to identify beneficiaries, a process already underway across the state.
In a recent meeting with divisional commissioners and district magistrates, Singh emphasized the urgency of completing the identification and verification of eligible families.
&ldquo;So far, we have identified 10.46 lakh families who do not have a permanent house. Out of these, 9.73 lakh families have been validated by the block development officers. All CDOs should ensure that the identified eligible families receive the benefits of the PM and CM Housing Scheme,&rdquo; he said.
The Chief Secretary also pointed out that several families, despite being eligible, have yet to receive benefits under various welfare schemes. Departments are using Aadhaar and Family ID databases to identify such individuals and prioritize them for assistance under programs like Antyodaya cards, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, Ayushman Bharat, and old-age pensions.
The government&rsquo;s long-term goal is to increase the minimum annual income of these families to ₹1.25 lakh. "The Skill Development Mission will play an important role in this. A planned approach should be taken for skilling and upskilling the identified families under various schemes. A certificate should be provided to persons after skilling or upskilling so that they can be helped in getting employment. In addition to this, youth should be assisted in getting loans through schemes like CM Yuva Udyami Yojna," Singh added.

He concluded by referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi&rsquo;s earlier remarks on the issue. "That is why when Prime Minister Modi dedicated the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man, the symbol of the integrity of the country, to the nation in 2019, he said that 'one nation, one election' is important for the stability of the country," he said.

Speaking during the inauguration of the first All India Police Handball Cluster 2024-2025, Adityanath said, "Sports have always been an integral part of Indian life. Our sages have long said that fulfilment of all religious pursuits requires a healthy body. A healthy mind can only reside in a healthy body.
"To realise the vision of a strong nation, we must first have a healthy India. Therefore, it is essential to promote sports at every level. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully introduced a new sports culture across the country." Adityanath cited initiatives such as Khelo India, the Fit India Movement, and the establishment of SAI centres in every district through the Sports Authority of India (SAI) as examples of this shift.
"In light of all these programmes, the all-India police tournament has been launched, and I am pleased to announce that for the next five days, the All India Police Handball Cluster 2024-2025 will be held in the capital of Uttar Pradesh," Adityanath said.
A total of 75 teams representing central forces and state police departments with 1,341 players, including 336 women, are taking part in the event, the Uttar Pradesh government said in a statement.
Adityanath also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for choosing Uttar Pradesh as the host for the handball tournament.
"Teams from across the country -- from Manipur to Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir to Telangana and West Bengal -- make this event a true reflection of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'," the chief minister said.
In the past five years, the Uttar Pradesh police department has participated in more than 500 international competitions. In addition, players who have won medals are being incorporated into the state police force, with over 500 athletes recruited for various posts through direct recruitment, the statement said.

In its first phase, the plant will produce 3.5 lakh litres of ethanol daily, with plans to expand capacity to 5 lakh litres.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the significant rise in ethanol production in India. "Ethanol production has increased from 42 lakh liters to 177 crore liters since Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the production of ethanol from surplus sugarcane," CM Yogi noted.

In the first phase, 3.50 lakh litres of ethanol will be produced here daily, and this will increase to 5 lakh litres," CM Yogi said.

Highlighting the rise in ethanol production since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approval for ethanol manufacturing from surplus sugarcane, the Chief Minister said that the move has drastically scaled up output.
"Ethanol is now being used to save foreign exchange, with plans to power not just cars but also airplanes. India currently spends Rs 7-8 lakh crore on diesel and petrol imports. After Prime Minister Modi took office, he prioritized farmers' welfare, approving ethanol production from surplus sugarcane. This initiative has led to a significant increase in ethanol production in Uttar Pradesh, from 42 lakh liters to 177 crore liters, primarily used for blending with diesel and petrol, thereby saving foreign exchange," CM Yogi added.
The Chief Minister also spoke about the industrial transformation of the GIDA region under the BJP government, saying that it had evolved into a hub of new investments and opportunities.
"This is the same GIDA where no one was willing to set up industries earlier. Over the past 8 years, we've attracted over Rs 15,000 crore in investments, providing jobs to 50,000 youth. Many industries have arrived, and new ones like garment parks are emerging. Many people come to me in Lucknow and express their desire to invest in Gorakhpur and GIDA. This shows that people have now realized that Uttar Pradesh, particularly Gorakhpur, has become a secure destination for investment," CM Yogi said.
