Addressing a press conference, ICMR Director General Dr Balram Bhargava said the government will issue clear cut recommendations on this before January 10, when administering of the precautionary dose to healthcare and frontline workers and those above 60 years with comorbidities will begin.
According to guidelines issued by the govt, prioritisation and sequencing of the precaution dose would be based on completion of nine months from the date of administration of second dose, which is 39 weeks.
Eligibility for the precaution dose will be based on the date of administration of the second dose as recorded in the Co-WIN system, which will send an SMS for availing the precaution dose when it becomes due, the guidelines stated.

Top virologist Dr. Gagandeep Kaur has stated that according to data mRNA vaccines have proved to be the best booster shots against Covid-19 and urged the Indian government to get mRNA vaccines to India as soon as possible. Top mRNA vaccines available across countries are Pfizer-BioNtech and Moderna. 
Dr Kang also pointed that India can also wait for its own mRNA platform-based vaccine by Pune-based Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd. 
“Either the Indian government should figure out how to bring these mRNA boosters in India or we can wait for the launch of Gennova’s mRNA vaccine. This vaccine may also work for us,” she said.
Explaining the need for booster vaccines, Dr. Kang said that the available Covid-19 vaccines were the 'fastest option' to fight against the pandemic. She added that booster shots are not required for everyone, but only for the vulnerable population.

Compared to 2019, when there was little urgency or chatter about vaccines, Merriam-Webster logged an increase of 1,048 per cent in lookups this year. Debates over inequitable distribution, vaccine mandates and boosters kept interest high, Sokolowski said. So did vaccine hesitancy and friction over vaccine passports.
The word “vaccine” wasn't birthed in a day, or due to a single pandemic. The first known use stretches back to 1882 but references pop up earlier related to fluid from cowpox pustules used in inoculations, Sokolowski said.

Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Monday said it has received an order to supply one crore doses of its Covid-19 vaccine, ZyCoV-D, to the Indian government at ₹265 per dose.&nbsp;
The vaccine will be administered using a needle-free applicator as opposed to traditional syringes. The pharma&nbsp;giant will provide the applicator at ₹93 per dose, exlcuding&nbsp;GST.&nbsp;
The company has said that the pricing has been decided in consultation with the Government of India
ZyCoV-D is the first DNA plasmid vaccine in the world for human use, developed&nbsp;indigenously by the company against the Covid-19 virus, Zydus Cadila said.
ZyCoV-D&nbsp;is also the first vaccine cleared by India's drug regulator for inoculation of those aged 12 years and above.

ZyCoV-D is the first DNA plasmid vaccine in the world for human use, developed&nbsp;indigenously by the company against the Covid-19 virus, Zydus Cadila said.
ZyCoV-D&nbsp;is also the first vaccine cleared by India's drug regulator for inoculation of those aged 12 years and above.
The three doses of ZyCoV-D, are to be administered 28 days apart. The vaccine was given emergency use authorization by the Indian drug regulator on August 20, this year.

The research is consistent with preliminary studies by US and Israeli health authorities suggesting that efficacy of vaccinations begins to fade after six months. 
Published in the Lancet journal, it says that in the future, 'booster shots will be needed to restore the efficacy of vaccines'.
The WHO says that while current vaccines are enough protection against the infection, a third booster shot is not necessary. The health authority also said that it is important to address the inequitable distribution of vaccines before booster shots are administered.

It was being advertised by Wilmore&nbsp;Funeral Home, or so it seemed.&nbsp;
As soon as the ad became popular among social media users, many searched on the internet for 'Wilmore&nbsp;Funeral Home'.&nbsp;
Which led them to a website of the funeral home, that read, 'Get vaccinated now. If not, see you soon.'&nbsp;
'Get vaccinated now' was linked to the webpage of Star Med Healthcare, a local healthcare&nbsp;provider.&nbsp;
Star Med said that it was not responsible for the advertisement.&nbsp;
WBTV, a news channel, identified David Oakley, owner of BooneOakley, an advertisement agency to be the mind behind this ad.&nbsp;
'Wanted to do something with a different perspective', Oakley told WBTV, adding that he was worried about backlash&nbsp;before they started.&nbsp;
But even if one person got the vaccine because of the ad, it was worth it, according to him.&nbsp;
