The vaccine procurement war between the Centre and the States seems to be never ending. The Delhi government on Saturday slammed the Centre for stubbornly &ldquo;sitting over&rdquo; the vaccine distribution system. Delhi&rsquo;s Deputy Chief Minister flagged the acute shortage of vaccines available forcing the government yet again to suspend its vaccination drive for the 18-44 years age group.
Sisodia said that the Centre had informed them that vaccines for the 18-44 age group would not be available before June 10, so how were the private hospitals getting the doses if there not enough stocks for the states. Delhi requires 1.84 crore doses for the 18-44 years group and the Centre had provided 4.5 lakh doses in April and 3.67 lakh in May. Around 8.17 lakh was procured from manufacturers.
In an attempt to procure and inoculate Delhiites, the AAP government has floated a global expression of interest (EOI) to urgently get 10 million doses of Covid vaccines and asked bidders to submit their offers by June 7.

NITI Aayog member, Dr VK Paul, who is the govt's top Covid-19 adviser on Thursday said that recipients must stick to the same dose of vaccine as their first one. But, in case people have got different jabs, there is no cause for concern. 
His clarification comes after reports that 20 villagers in Uttar Pradesh&rsquo;s Siddharthnagar district were administered a dose of Covaxin after the first dose of Covishield, triggering fear of side-effects among people. Dr Paul added that two different doses are safe and the govt is mulling a mix and match of vaccine doses on a trial basis. 
Studies meanwhile are being conducted globally, to see the possible outcome of mixing doses of the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines. A trial on 600 participants showed that if Pfizer's mRNA vaccine is given as the second dose to beneficiaries who got AstraZeneca's shot as their first dose, it improved immune response significantly with mild side-effects.
Canada, Finland, France, Norway, Sweden, Spain, and South Korea have allowed the use of a different vaccine for the second dose for complete Covid-19 vaccination if the first dose was of AstraZeneca vaccine. The US has allowed mixing of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines asking the recipients to take the two shots with a gap of 28 days.

Defending the move to export vaccines earlier this year by the government, he said people do not tend to realise is that India is amongst the two most populous countries in the world, and a vaccination drive for such a large population cannot be completed within 2-3 months.He said it would take 2-3 years for the entire world population to get fully vaccinated.
The statement comes at a time when there are repeated attacks on the decision to export vaccines, which, some say led to a vaccine shortage in India.
