<p>Actor Vicky Kaushal, who began his career as an assistant director on Anurag Kashyap&rsquo;s &lsquo;Gangs of Wasseypur&rsquo;, recently recalled some incidents from the shoot. In an interview with Tanmay Bhat for his YouTube channel, Vicky recalled a close encounter where he almost got beaten up by a sand mafia and their 500 goons while filming illegal sand mining.</p>
<p>&lsquo;The coal smuggling that was shown in the film was real. We shot it. One incident happened when we went to capture visuals of illegal sand mining. I was baffled because that was the first time I realised that this happens so openly that you wouldn&rsquo;t feel that this is actual smuggling going on; you would feel that it is a properly run business because there weren&rsquo;t just two trucks standing there, there were 500 trucks,&rsquo; recalled Vicky.</p>
<p>He said, &lsquo;The camera attendant was an old man, some 50 plus. That guy called the unit saying that the camera wouldn&rsquo;t come on time because we were caught up in a situation here. Hearing him talk over the phone, the person there thought that he was calling somebody influential. That man slapped the cameraman, snatched the camera from him, and threatened us that they would break the camera. We both were about to get beaten up, but we somehow escaped.&rsquo;</p>

In a recent conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Vicky shared, "It&rsquo;s a dream come true. Unko milna hi dream come true hota hai, unke saath kaam karna to socho kitna bada dream come true hai. (Just meeting him is a dream come true, so just imagine what a big dream it was to work with Shah Rukh). <p>Vicky Kaushal, who will next be seen in Meghna Gulzar&rsquo;s &lsquo;Sam Bahadur&rsquo;, said initially he didn&rsquo;t feel he was good looking enough for the titular role in the film.&nbsp;<br><br>Vicky plays Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in the film. At the film's trailer launch event held at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi on November 7, Vicky said, "I remember when Meghna and I were working on 'Raazi', then during a shooting schedule in Patiala she told me what she wanted to do next. And she said she wants to make a film on Sam Manekshaw.&rdquo;&nbsp;<br><br><strong>When Vicky tought he would not get the role</strong><br>Vicky shared, "My mother and father are both from Punjab, and through them, I had heard a lot about him. But I didn't know how he looked. So during that conversation, I secretly Googled him and saw his photo. I said, 'He is very handsome and will not get this role.' But I have to thank Meghna for giving me the role of this handsome person.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p>
<p>The trailer launch was attended by Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh, director Gulzar and producer Ronnie Screwvala.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The film spans 40 years of Manekshaw's life, from fighting in World War II to being the Chief of Army Staff during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, that led to the creation of Bangladesh, makers said.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>'Playing Sam Bahadur was toughest'</strong><br>Kaushal also said that playing this role was toughest for him. "It is the toughest role of my life, not because of the way he talked and walked but because of the man he was. This was an attempt to live that life. It is obviously a team effort," he said.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p>
