As per experts, the cases of vitamin D deficiency are increasing due to changing eating habits, less exposure to sunlight and indoor lifestyle.

A recent survey revealed that 3 out of 4 Indians suffer from a deficiency of Vitamin D. The research was conducted by Tata 1Mg pharmacy on about 2.2 lakh people in 27 Indian cities.
During the survey, it was noted that 84 per cent of youth suffer from Vitamin D deficiency. Besides this, the deficiency was more prevalent in men below the age of 25 as compared to elderly people and women.
Among the 27 cities studied, Vadodara (89%) and Surat (88%) had the highest vitamin D-deficient population. Looking at the&nbsp; survey data, experts say that the cases of vitamin D deficiency are increasing due to changing eating habits, less exposure to sunlight and indoor lifestyle.

Published in the European Heart Journal,&nbsp;the study discovered that&nbsp;people with&nbsp;low&nbsp;vitamin D&nbsp;levels&nbsp;have a higher risk of suffering from heart disease and high blood pressure than people with normal levels of vitamin D. The study&nbsp;analysed&nbsp;data from 267,980 people, allowing the team to find an association between vitamin D deficiency and CVD.&nbsp;
According to researchers, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, killing&nbsp;an estimated 179 million people every year.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Sunlight is the biggest source of&nbsp;vitamin&nbsp;D and 95 per&nbsp;cent of the required amount for the body can be met&nbsp;through&nbsp;sun exposure.&nbsp;Other great sources of the sunshine vitamin include eggs, fish and mushrooms.&nbsp;

However, a new meta-analysis of 54 trials has found that&nbsp;vitamin D supplementation shows no signs of improving muscle health.&nbsp;Published in the&nbsp;Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, the study assessed data from&nbsp;double-blinded, placebo-controlled, English-language randomized controlled trials.
Researchers were not able to find any benefit of vitamin D supplements&nbsp;on muscle strength or health. In fact, daily dosages of vitamin D greater than 2,800&nbsp;international units actually&nbsp;reduced muscle performance in certain tests.
Citing limitations of available literature, the authors say that since no studies include people with vitamin D deficiency in isolation, such individuals with low levels of the vitamin may still benefit from taking the supplement.
