"The enemy continues its terror. Once again, the energy sector across Ukraine is under massive attack," Galushchenko wrote in a post on Facebook.
Ukraine's energy system has already suffered 11 Russian attack waves this year, which have caused widespread damage and lengthy power cuts all over the country.
Friday's attack prompted additional restrictions on power usage for consumers, according to the national grid operator Ukrenergo.
All of Ukraine was under air raid alarms.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on partners to deliver more air defence systems urgently.

During the summit, both sides had vowed to further expand India-Russia defence and military ties.
Modi travelled to Russia in October as well to attend the annual BRICS summit.

As the two heads of state held an informal meeting over a cup of tea at the official residence outside Moscow, Modi recollected the recent elections in his country, saying that &ldquo;the people of India gave him a chance to serve the Motherland.&rdquo; &ldquo;You have devoted your entire life to serving the Indian people, and they can feel it,&rdquo; Putin replied.
&ldquo;You are right, I have only one goal: It is the people and my country,&rdquo; the prime minister said with a smile, the Tass report said.
Later, President Putin and Prime Minister Modi took a stroll around Putin&rsquo;s residence in Novo-Ogaryovo.
"The Russian leader showed his Indian guest around the residence and gave him a drive in an electric car. Most of the time they spoke via interpreters. However, when they left the car and were walking to the garden they had a brief tete-a-tete conversation, probably in English," according to a separate Tass report.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to President Putin for hosting him at Novo-Ogaryovo.
"Looking forward to our talks tomorrow as well, which will surely go a long way in further cementing the bonds of friendship between India and Russia," he said.
Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs described the private event as a "meeting of two close friends and trusted partners." "PM @narendramodi welcomed by President Vladimir Putin of Russia at his official residence at Novo-Ogaryovo for a private engagement," it said, sharing some photographs of the meeting.
It is an occasion for the two leaders to cherish &amp; celebrate India-Russia friendship, it said.
In his first trip since the start of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, Modi on Monday travelled to Russia to hold summit talks with Putin on Tuesday -- a visit that is being seen as having a wider geopolitical context and signalling.
Shortly after landing in Moscow, Modi said he is looking forward to deepening bilateral partnership in futuristic areas and that stronger ties between India and Russia will "greatly benefit our people".
India seeks to play a "supportive role" for a peaceful and stable region, the prime minister said in his departure statement.

According to a source quoted in the report, Putin can fight for as long as it takes, but he is also ready for a ceasefire to freeze the war. &nbsp;
Putin believes that Russians can be sold on the idea that the motherland has taken back enough territory, the source said.&nbsp;

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday moved to replace defence minister Sergei Shoigu in a major shake-up to Russia's military leadership more than two years into its Ukraine offensive.
Putin proposed economist Andrey Belousov as Shoigu's replacement, according to a list of the ministerial nominations published by the Federation Council, Russia's upper house of parliament.
The move comes at a key time in the conflict with Russian troops advancing in eastern Ukraine and having just launched a major new ground operation against the northeastern Kharkiv region.
Despite a string of military setbacks in the first year of the campaign -- including the failure to capture the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and retreats from the Kharkiv and southern Kherson regions -- Putin had stood by Shoigu until now.
That included when Wagner paramilitary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin launched a bloody insurrection last year calling for Shoigu's removal.
Explaining the timing of the decision, the Kremlin on Sunday said it needed the defence ministry to stay "innovative".
"The defence ministry must be absolutely open to innovation, to the introduction of all advanced ideas, to the creation of conditions for economic competitiveness," state media quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying in a briefing on the appointments.
"The battlefield is won by whoever is more open to innovation," Peskov said.
"That is likely why the president has settled on the candidacy of Andrey Belousov," he added.
Belousov, who has no military background, has been one of Putin's most influential economic advisers over the last decade.
UK defence minister Grant Shapps said the Ukraine conflict had left more than 355,000 Russian soldier casualties under Shoigu's watch as well as "mass civilian suffering".
"Russia needs a Defence Minister who would undo that disastrous legacy" and end the conflict, "but all they'll get is another of Putin's puppets," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Shoigu, 68, was appointed Russian defence minister in 2012 and has had a decades-long political career of unmatched longevity in post-Soviet Russia.

While US officials believe Putin was ultimately responsible for the death of Navalny, who endured brutal conditions during his confinement, the intelligence community has found &ldquo;no smoking gun&rdquo; that Putin was aware of the timing of Navalny's death &mdash; which came soon before the Russian president's reelection &mdash; or directly ordered it, according to the official.
The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter.
Soon after the Navalny's death, US President Joe Biden said Putin was ultimately responsible but did not accuse the Russian president of directly ordering it.
At the time, Biden said the US did not know exactly what had happened to Navalny but that &ldquo;there is no doubt&rdquo; that his death &ldquo;was the consequence of something that Putin and his thugs did.&rdquo; Navalny, 47, Russia's best-known opposition politician and Putin's most persistent foe, died Feb. 16 in a remote penal colony above the Arctic Circle while serving a 19-year sentence on extremism charges that he rejected as politically motivated.

Independent Russian news outlet Mediazona reported Tuesday that it found women's rights activist Darya Serenko and prominent journalist and author Mikhail Zygar in the Interior Ministry's database of individuals wanted on criminal charges. The entries don't specify the charges or when they were added to the list.
Both Serenko and Zygar have long left Russia.
The Kremlin's crackdown against opposition activists, independent journalists and government critics has intensified during the war. Hundreds have faced criminal charges over protests and remarks condemning the war in Ukraine, and thousands have been fined or briefly jailed.
Serenko, a longtime activist and author, co-founded the Feminist Anti-War Resistance group shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and moved to Georgia during the crackdown. The comments come hours after Nikolai Patrushev, who is the head of Russia's National Security Council, claimed that the United States bears some responsibility for the attack as it controls the Kyiv regime.
Speaking at a meeting in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)&mdash;a nine-country alliance focused on security and economic matters that includes China, India, and Iran&mdash;Patrushev stated, "They are trying to impose on us that the terrorist act was committed not by the Kyiv regime, but by supporters of radical Islamic ideology, perhaps members of the Afghan branch of IS."
He continued, "However, it is much more important to quickly establish who is the customer and sponsor of this monstrous crime. Its traces lead to the Ukrainian special services. But everyone knows that the Kyiv regime is not independent and is completely controlled by the United States."

Eleven people have been detained in connection with the attack, which saw camouflaged gunmen storm into Crocus City Hall, open fire on concert-goers and set the building ablaze, killing at least 139 people.
"We know that the crime was committed by the hands of radical Islamists, whose ideology the Islamic world itself has been fighting for centuries," Putin said in a televised meeting.
But the Russian leader said "many questions" remained unanswered, including why the attackers tried to flee to Ukraine -- a claim that Kyiv has rejected.
"Of course, it is necessary to answer the question, why, after committing the crime, the terrorists tried to go to Ukraine? Who was waiting for them there?" Putin asked.
"This atrocity may be just a link in a whole series of attempts by those who have been at war with our country since 2014," he said, referring to Ukraine and its allies.
Ukraine has described accusations it was involved as absurd.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday accused Russia's Vladimir Putin of seeking to "shift the blame" onto Kyiv for the Moscow concert hall attack that killed 133 people.
"What happened yesterday in Moscow is obvious: Putin is just trying to blame it on someone else," Zelensky announced, after Putin said the suspects had been fleeing towards Ukraine.
"They always have the same methods," Zelensky added.
In a televised address earlier Saturday, President Putin said the four gunmen arrested for the deadly attack were "travelling towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window was prepared for them on the Ukrainian side to cross the state border".
Kyiv has angrily dismissed the claims by the Russian leader, which come more than two years after Moscow invaded Ukraine.
"Instead of dealing with his Russian citizens, addressing them, was silent for a day, thinking about how to bring it to Ukraine," Zelensky said.
"Everything is absolutely predictable."
The Moscow attack has been claimed by the Islamic State group (IS).
It was the deadliest attack in Russia for almost two decades and the deadliest in Europe to have been claimed by IS.
Putin made no reference to the group's claims of responsibility in his address.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday vowed to punish those behind a "barbaric terrorist attack" on a Moscow concert hall that killed at least 133, saying Russia had arrested four gunmen who were trying to flee to Ukraine.
Kyiv has strongly denied any connection, and Putin made no reference to claims of responsibility by the Islamic State in his first public remarks on the attack.
At least 133 people were killed when camouflaged gunmen stormed the Crocus City Hall, in Moscow's northern suburb of Krasnogorsk, and then set fire to the building on Friday evening.
The jihadist group has claimed the attack, writing Saturday on a Telegram channel that it was "carried out by four IS fighters armed with machine guns, a pistol, knives and firebombs," as part of "the raging war" with "countries fighting Islam".
It is the deadliest attack on Russia in almost two decades and the deadliest in Europe to have been claimed by the Islamic State.
Russian officials expect the death toll to rise further, with more than 100 injured in hospital.
"Terrorists, murderers, non-humans ... have only one unenviable fate: retribution and oblivion," Putin said in a televised address to the nation on Saturday.
<h2>'Barbaric'</h2>
Calling the attack a "barbaric, terrorist act", he said "all four direct perpetrators ... all those who shot and killed people, have been found and detained".
"They tried to escape and were travelling towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window was prepared for them on the Ukrainian side to cross the state border," he added.
Putin also compared the attackers to "Nazis" and said the attack was an "atrocity, a strike against Russia and our people".
He named Sunday a day of national mourning.
Russia arrested 11 people in connection with the attack on Saturday, the FSB security service said.
"All the perpetrators, organisers and those who ordered this crime will be justly and inevitably punished," Putin said.
The FSB said earlier Saturday that the assailants had "contacts" in Ukraine, without providing further details.
Kyiv, facing a Russian military offensive for the past two years, said it had "nothing to do" with the attack, presidential aide Mykhailo Podolyak said in a statement.
<h2>At least 133 killed </h2>
Russia's Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said rescue workers were still working on site on Saturday, pulling bodies from the burnt-out building.
"The emergency services have found more bodies while clearing the debris," it said in a statement on Telegram.
"The number of people killed in the terrorist attack has risen to 133. Search operations continue."
The governor of the Moscow region said rescuers would continue to scour the site for "several days."
Some 107 people were still in hospital, many in a critical condition, according to Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility on Friday, saying its fighters attacked "a large gathering" on Moscow's outskirts and "retreated to their bases safely".
Some witnesses filmed the gunmen from the upper floors as they walked through the stalls shooting people, footage shared on social media showed.
Then "the terrorists used a flammable liquid to set fire to the concert hall's premises, where spectators were located, including wounded," the Investigative Committee said.
Investigators said people died both from gunshot wounds and smoke inhalation after a fire engulfed the 6,000-seater venue.
Flames quickly spread through the venue on Friday, with screaming concert-goers rushing to emergency exits.
<h2>Blood queues</h2>
Putin did not address the Islamic State's claim of responsibility in his first public remarks on Saturday, more than 18 hours after the start of the attack.
The head of the state-run RT media outlet, Margarita Simonyan on Saturday posted two videos claiming to be interrogations of two handcuffed suspects, who both admitted to the attack but did not say who organised it.
Russian Telegram channels, including Baza which is close to the security services, and a lawmaker said some of the suspects were from Tajikistan, a post-Soviet country in Central Asia.
Tajikistan's foreign ministry told Russia's TASS news agency that authorities were "in close contact" with Moscow about the "supposed participation of the country's citizens in the terrorist attack".
In Moscow, residents stood in long lines in the rain to donate blood for those hospitalised, according to videos posted by state media outlets.
Memorial posters featuring a single candle replaced some advertising billboards, the RIA Novosti state agency reported.
Major events were cancelled across the country, including a friendly football match between Russia and Paraguay set to take place in Moscow on Monday.
Statements of condemnation from world leaders continued to roll in.
US warning dismissed 
Russia's powerful intelligence services were also in the spotlight in the wake of the attack.
Just three days before, Putin had publicly dismissed Western warnings of an imminent attack in Moscow as propaganda designed to scare Russian citizens.
On 7 March, the US embassy in Russia had issued a security alert saying it was "monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts".
Washington on Friday said it had directly warned Russian authorities about a "planned terrorist attack" possibly targeting "large gatherings" in Moscow.
But speaking to FSB chiefs last Tuesday, Putin said: "Recent provocative statements by a number of official Westerns structures about the possibility of terrorist attacks in Russia ... resembles outright blackmail and an intention to intimidate and destabilise our society."

"The president wished everyone a speedy recovery and conveyed his gratitude to the doctors," Tatyana Golikova was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies. Putin has yet to comment publicly on the attack.
Gunmen opened fire at a Moscow concert hall on Friday killing more than 60 people, wounding more than 100 and sparking an inferno, authorities said, with the Islamic State group claiming responsibility.
Attackers dressed in camouflage uniforms entered the building, opened fire and threw a grenade or incendiary bomb, according to a journalist for the RIA Novosti news agency at the scene.
Fire quickly spread through the Crocus City concert hall in Moscow's northern Krasnogorsk suburb, as smoke filled the building and screaming visitors rushed to emergency exits.
Alexei, a music producer, was about to settle into his seat before the start of a rock concert when he heard gunfire and "a lot of screams".
"I realised right away that it was automatic gunfire and understood that most likely it's the worst: a terrorist attack," said Alexei, who would not give his last name.
As people ran towards emergency exits, "there was a terrible crush" with concert-goers climbing on one another's heads to get out, he added.
Russia's Investigative Committee said Saturday that more than 60 people had been killed, raising an earlier toll of 40, according to Russian news agencies.
Russia's Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said 115 people were hospitalised, including five children, one of whom was in grave condition. Of the 110 adult patients, 60 were in serious condition.
Authorities said a "terrorist" investigation had been started and President Vladimir Putin was receiving "constant" updates, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agencies.
Russia's national guard said it was on the scene and looking for the perpetrators. An AFP reporter saw police officers with sniffer dogs inspecting vehicles parked next to the building.
The Islamic State group said its fighters attacked "a large gathering" on Moscow's outskirts and "retreated to their bases safely".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held separate conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and asserted that dialogue and diplomacy were the way forward for the resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Modi spoke to Putin to congratulate him for winning a fifth term in office in the recent elections, and followed it up with a phone call to Zelenskyy to convey India's "consistent support" for all efforts for peace and bringing an early end to the ongoing conflict.
Both Putin and Zelenskyy have invited the prime minister to visit Russia and Ukraine respectively after the Lok Sabha elections, sources said, adding they see Modi as a "peacemaker".
"Spoke with President Putin and congratulated him on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation," Modi said in a post on X.
Modi said he and Putin agreed to work together to further deepen and expand the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership in the years ahead.
A statement by the External Affairs Ministry said while discussing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Modi reiterated India's consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward.
"They also reviewed progress in various issues of bilateral cooperation, and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest," it said.
In his phone call to Zelenskyy, Modi asserted that India supported all efforts for an early and peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
"Had a good conversation with President @ZelenskyyUa on strengthening the India-Ukraine partnership. Conveyed India's consistent support for all efforts for peace and bringing an early end to the ongoing conflict.
"India will continue to provide humanitarian assistance guided by our people-centric approach," Modi said on X.
Zelenskyy appreciated India's continued humanitarian assistance for the people of Ukraine, a statement said.
In a post on X, the Ukrainian leader later said that "it will be important for us to see India attend the inaugural Peace Summit" in Switzerland.
Ukraine also wishes to welcome Indian students back to Ukrainian educational institutions, he said.
"I spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express gratitude for India's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, humanitarian aid, and active participation in Peace Formula meetings," he said.
"We discussed the development of our bilateral relations, which should include a meeting of our teams and a session of the intergovernmental commission on cooperation in New Delhi in the nearest future," he said.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine is interested in strengthening trade and economic ties with India, particularly in agricultural exports, aviation cooperation, and pharmaceutical and industrial product trade.
According to a Kremlin readout, Putin wished Modi "for the successful conduct of the upcoming parliamentary elections in India".
Modi is among the few international leaders who have greeted Putin on his re-election.
According to the Kremlin statement, both sides noted with satisfaction that mutually beneficial ties in trade, economic and investment fields and in the areas of energy and transport are progressively and dynamically developing in line with a particularly privileged strategic partnership.
"An exchange of views was also held on a number of issues on the international agenda, in particular in the context of the situation around Ukraine," the Kremlin statement said.
"The mood for further coordination between Russia and India in multilateral formats, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, was confirmed," it added.
"The conversation took place in a warm and friendly manner. Vladimir Putin, in turn, wished Narendra Modi successful conduct of the upcoming parliamentary elections in India," the Kremlin statement said.
Putin recorded a landslide victory in Russia's election, cementing his already tight grip on power. The result on Monday showed that the three other candidates who ran -- but had not openly challenged Putin -- won 4.31, 3.85 and 3.20 per cent of the vote.&nbsp;

All of the 71-year old's major opponents are dead, in prison or exiled, and he has overseen an unrelenting crackdown on anybody who publicly opposes his rule or his military offensive on Ukraine.
"I want to thank all of you and all citizens of the country for your support and this trust," Putin said early Monday morning in a news conference at his campaign headquarters in Moscow hours after polls closed.
"No matter who or how much they want to intimidate us, no matter who or how much they want to suppress us, our will, our consciousness -- no one has ever succeeded in anything like this in history. It has not worked now and will not work in the future. Never," he added.
With more than 80 percent of voting stations having submitted results, Putin had secured 87.2 percent of all votes cast, official election data showed -- a record victory in a presidential election where he faced no genuine competition.
The three-day election was marked by a surge in deadly Ukrainian bombardments, incursions into Russian territory by pro-Kyiv sabotage groups and vandalism at polling stations.
The Kremlin had cast the election as a moment for Russians to throw their weight behind the full-scale military operation in Ukraine, where voting is also being staged in Russian-controlled territories.
<h3>'Drunk from power'</h3>
Putin singled out Russian troops fighting in Ukraine for special thanks in his post-election speech in Moscow.
And he was unrelenting in claiming his forces had a major advantage on the battlefield, even after a week which saw Ukraine mount some of its most significant aerial attacks on Russia and in which pro-Ukrainian militias barraged Russian border villages with armed raids.
"The initiative belongs entirely to the Russian armed forces. In some areas, our guys are just mowing them -- the enemy -- down," he said.
Kyiv and its allies slammed the vote -- which was also staged in parts of Ukraine under Russian forces' control -- as a sham. President Volodymyr Zelensky lashed out at Putin as a "dictator" who was "drunk from power".
"There is no evil he will not commit to prolong his personal power," Zelensky said.
As early as Friday, the first day of voting in the election, EU chief Charles Michel had sarcastically congratulated Putin on his "landslide victory".
If he completes another full Kremlin term, Putin will have stayed in power longer than any Russian leader since Catherine the Great in the 18th century.
Allies of the late Alexei Navalny -- Putin's most prominent rival, who died in an Arctic prison last month -- had tried to spoil his inevitable victory, urging voters to flood polling stations at noon and spoil their ballots.
His wife, Yulia Navalnaya, was greeted by supporters with flowers and applause in Berlin. After voting at the Russian embassy, she said she had written her late husband's name on her ballot.

Russia is holding a presidential election from Friday to Sunday that is set to hand President Vladimir Putin another six-year mandate despite the tumult triggered by Russia's campaign in Ukraine.
Here are five things to know about the vote:
<h3>No opposition&nbsp;</h3>
The only would-be candidates opposed to the campaign in Ukraine, Boris Nadezhdin and Yekaterina Duntsova, who gathered tens of thousands of signatures to support their candidacies, had their applications turned down.
Other than Putin, there are three registered candidates -- the nationalist conservative Leonid Slutsky, the Communist Party candidate Nikolai Kharitonov and Vladislav Davankov, a businessman.
They have all supported Russia's offensive in Ukraine.
Kremlin critics point out that the role of these three candidate is to channel any discontent and give a pluralist varnish to the vote at a time when the opposition has been decimated by repression.
Independent observers also say the authorities have means at their disposal to manage the results, including vote-rigging, ballot-stuffing and using millions of state employees to back the status quo.
The only unknown factor is whether there could be any protests, as called for by late opposition leader Alexei Navalny and now his widow, Yulia Navalnaya.
Thousands of supporters turned out to pay their respects at Navalny's funeral in Moscow last month, some chanting anti-government slogans.
His widow has urged supporters to come to polling stations at 0900 GMT on Sunday and protest by voting for anyone other than Putin or spoiling their ballots and writing "Navalny" on them.
<h3>Putin's promises</h3>
While the result of the election is not in doubt, the government is campaigning hard, in a bid to strengthen Putin's domestic and international legitimacy.
The Kremlin chief is in a better position now because of Russian advances in Ukraine, amid cracks in Western support for Kyiv, and the Russian economy has proven resilient despite heavy sanctions.
Putin has stepped up media appearances in recent weeks, meeting students, visiting factories and even taking a flight in a nuclear bomber.
However, the Russian president has never taken part in an election debate since coming to power nearly a quarter of a century ago and will not start now.
In his State of the Nation speech last month, he made a long series of budget promises, handing out billions of rubles to modernise schools and infrastructure, fight poverty, protect the environment and boost technology.
The speech laid out a programme of government until at least 2030.
<h3>Economic concerns</h3>
Even though the economy has held up far better than expected, many Russians are worried about rising prices -- particularly for food -- and, in general, the instability generated by the campaign in Ukraine.
Labour shortages have piled up since thousands of young men have either died or are fighting in Ukraine, while hundreds of thousands of other people have fled abroad because they oppose the conflict or to avoid military service.
The authorities have clamped down hard in recent months on demonstrations by the wives of conscripted soldiers who have been asking for their loved ones to be allowed to return from the front.
<h3>Calls to vote</h3>
Patriotic posters have been plastered around the country, calling on Russians to vote.
The election posters have a "V" sign akin to the one used by Russian troops in Ukraine and the slogan: "Together, we are strong. Let's vote for Russia!".
The authorities will also organise raffles and entertainment to encourage voters to come out and vote in a country where disenchantment with politics, particularly among young people, is high.
Neighbouring Ukraine and its Western allies are presented as troublemakers in state media and official speeches.
Putin warned in December about possible "foreign interference" in the vote and promised a "severe response".
Last week, Russia summoned the US ambassador Lynne Tracy, accusing US-funded NGOs of "spreading disinformation" about the election.
<h3>Voting in occupied areas</h3>
In a telling indication of the paradox of Russian authorities trying to project normality amid an ongoing conflict, there will be voting in Russian-held areas of Ukraine.
Russia in 2022 declared the unilateral annexation of four regions of Ukraine -- even though its troops still do not control them fully.
Kyiv says local inhabitants are now being subjected to threats and violence to force them to vote -- something which Moscow denies.

Putin's blunt warning came in a state-of-the-nation address ahead of next month's election he's all but certain to win, underlining his readiness to raise the stakes in the tug-of-war with the West to protect the Russian gains in Ukraine.
In an apparent reference to French President Emmanuel Macron's statement earlier this week that the future deployment of Western ground troops to Ukraine should not be &ldquo;ruled out&rdquo;, Putin warned that it would lead to &ldquo;tragic&rdquo; consequences for the countries who decide to do that.
Putin noted that while accusing Russia of plans to attack NATO allies in Europe, Western allies were &ldquo;selecting targets for striking our territory" and "talking about the possibility of sending a NATO contingent to Ukraine.&rdquo; &ldquo;We remember the fate of those who sent their troop contingents to the territory of our country,&rdquo; the Russian leader said in an apparent allusion to the failed invasions by Napoleon and Hitler. &ldquo;Now the consequences for the potential invaders will be far more tragic.&rdquo; In a two-hour speech before an audience of lawmakers and top officials, Putin cast Western leaders as reckless and irresponsible and declared that the West should keep in mind that &ldquo;we also have the weapons that can strike targets on their territory, and what they are now suggesting and scaring the world with, all that raises the real threat of a nuclear conflict that will mean the destruction of our civilization.&rdquo; The strong statement followed earlier warnings from Putin, who has issued frequent reminders of Russia's nuclear might since he sent troops into Ukraine in February 2022 as he sought to discourage the West from expanding its military support for Kyiv.
Putin emphasized that Russia's nuclear forces are in &ldquo;full readiness,&rdquo; saying that the military has deployed potent new weapons, some of them tested on the battlefield in Ukraine.
The Kremlin leader said they include the new Sarmat heavy intercontinental ballistic missile that has entered service with Russian nuclear forces, along with the Burevestnik atomic-powered cruise missile and the Poseidon atomic-powered, nuclear-armed drone, which are completing their tests.

He reaffirmed his claim that the West was bent on destroying Russia, saying "they need a dependent, waning, dying space in the place of Russia so that they can do whatever they want.&rdquo; The Russian leader honoured the troops fallen in Ukraine with a moment of silence, and said that military veterans should form the core of the country's new elite, inviting them to join a new training program for senior civil servants.
Putin has repeatedly said that he sent troops into Ukraine in February 2022 to protect Russian interests and prevent Ukraine from posing a major security threat to Russia by joining NATO. Kyiv and its allies have denounced it as an unprovoked act of aggression.
The Russian leader has repeatedly signaled a desire to negotiate an end to the fighting but warned that Russia will hold onto its gains.

Navalny, the fiercest foe of Russian President Vladimir Putin who crusaded against official corruption and staged massive anti-Kremlin protests, died in prison Friday, Russian authorities said. He was 47.
Navalny, who was serving a 19-year sentence on charges of extremism, felt unwell after a walk, according to the Federal Penitentiary Service, and lost consciousness. An ambulance arrived to try to revive him, but he died. It said the cause of death was "being established.&rdquo; Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin was informed of Navalny's death and the prison service would look into it in line with standard procedures.
World leaders and Russian opposition activists wasted no time in blaming the death on President Vladimir Putin and his government.
