Russia Targets Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure

Local authorities reported multiple explosions in the southern city of Odesa and Kyiv regional authorities said air defence systems were operating.

Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine's energy facilities on Friday morning, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.
"The enemy continues its terror. Once again, the energy sector across Ukraine is under massive attack," Galushchenko wrote in a post on Facebook.
Ukraine's energy system has already suffered 11 Russian attack waves this year, which have caused widespread damage and lengthy power cuts all over the country.
Friday's attack prompted additional restrictions on power usage for consumers, according to the national grid operator Ukrenergo.
All of Ukraine was under air raid alarms.
Local authorities reported multiple explosions in the southern city of Odesa and Kyiv regional authorities said air defence systems were operating.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on partners to deliver more air defence systems urgently.
"Russia aims to deprive us of energy. Instead, we must deprive it of the means of terror. I reiterate my call for the urgent delivery of 20 NASAMS, HAWK, or IRIS-T air defense systems," Sybiha wrote in a post on X.

I was very shy, and would come back from school and just cry. School days were very painful&hellip;on top of that, doctors told me that I couldn&rsquo;t become an actor. There were problems with my spine, doctors said &lsquo;you cannot dance&rsquo;. I was so broken, that I would wake up for months, and would think it is a dream, a lucid dream. It was so heartbreaking and relive that feeling of knowing that I could not become an actor&hellip;I am disabled. So it was very traumatising.'
He later said that now when he looks back at the time, he thanks God for making him face the challenges as he learnt perseverance and how to be strong.
'For the day to be there, you have to have the night', he said.
&lsquo;When problems come, it becomes a game. I can hold on to this thought that I can learn from this pain, and it can shape my character. I come out stronger,&rsquo; he added.
On the work front, Hrithik Roshan will next feature in Siddharth Anand's 'Fighter' alongside Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor. The film is slated to release in 2024.

Ukraine's energy provider Ukrenergo said Monday that it is still short 27 per cent of output after Russian strikes on energy infrastructure. &ldquo;The scale and complexity of the damage are high, and repair works have continued around the clock,&rdquo; the company said in a statement.
Power supply was restored to 17 per cent of residents in the southern city of Kherson, which Ukraine reclaimed earlier this month. The Russians have continued pounding the city with artillery barrages.

Russia's army is preparing to evacuate civilians from the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, occupied by Moscow, the Russian military commander for Ukraine operations said on Tuesday.
"The Russian army will above all ensure the safe evacuation of the population" of Kherson, General Sergey Surovikin, who has been in charge of operations in Ukraine for the past 10 days, told state television Rossiya 24 describing the situation as "very difficult".
Kherson is one of the four regions in Ukraine that Moscow recently claimed to have annexed.
The city of Kherson, which lies near Moscow-annexed Crimea, was the first major Ukrainian city to fall to Russian forces after the Kremlin launched its attack on February 24.

Surovikin said Ukrainian strikes targeting civilian infrastructure "create a direct threat to the lives of residents".
Last week the Kremlin-appointed head of the area. Vladimir Saldo. said the region was being hit by an increasing amount of rockets causing "serious damage". He said civilian infrastructure was being targeted.
Saldo said those leaving would go to Crimea, a peninsula that Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014, and southern Russian regions.
The call came a day after Kyiv said it had retaken five settlements in Kherson.

Speaking to reporters in New York, Lavrov defended referendums underway in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in the south and the eastern Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
"When, in August of 2021, Mr. Zelenskyy (Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy) in one of the interviews vociferously proclaimed that in the east of Ukraine there are not even people but specimens for somebody or entities. And if somebody in Ukraine, any of the residents of Ukraine feel Russian, wishes to speak in the Russian language, then for the sake of the future of their children and their grandchildren, he would recommend that those people leave, go to Russia, " said Lavrov.
"The referenda are being conducted on the basis of the decisions of the local government authorities. The conditions of those referenda have been published and following those referenda as I already said, Russia, of course, will respect the expression of the will of those people who for many long years have been suffering from the abuses of the neo-Nazi regime."
Ukraine and its Western allies say the referendums have no legal force. They alleged the votes were an illegitimate attempt by Moscow to seize Ukrainian territory stretching from the Russian border to the Crimean Peninsula.
Lavrov went on to accuse the west of having "racist instincts" when it came to Russia, and claimed Russians faced discrimination in Estonia, Latvia and Ukraine.

The briefing, chaired by French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, was held Thursday as world leaders gathered in the UN headquarters for the high-level 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
Addressing the Council briefing were UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly and Foreign Ministers of other UNSC members.
Jaishankar told the Council that in a globalised world, the impact of the conflict is being felt even in distant regions. "We have all experienced its consequences in terms of surging costs and actual shortages of food grains, fertilizers and fuel." They reportedly died due to stab wounds on 23 March 2022. Investigators claimed there were no signs of 'unauthorised entry' into the house.
The next businessman to die was Vladislav Avayev, a former vice president of Gazprombank. He was found dead along with his wife and daughter. Their corpses were found at their Moscow house on 18 April 2022. Investigators reportedly called it a murder-suicide.

His wife and daughter's bodies reportedly had injuries. The deaths were discovered on 19 April 2022. Catalan cops suspected yet another murder-suicide.
The next death was of Vladimir Lyakishev, former co-owner of the Bratya Karavayevi restaurant chain. He was found dead in Moscow on 4 May 2022 with a gunshot wound to the head. A gun registered in his name was reportedly found near the body. The corpse was discovered on the 16th floor balcony of the building where he lived.
Deceased number 8 was Alexander Subbotin, a senior executive at oil & gas giant Lukoil. He was found dead in Mytishchi on 8 May 2022. He reportedly died during a visit to a shaman in an intoxicated state. Subbotin was found in the basement, after having suffered an apparent heart attack. Authorities opened a criminal investigation in the case.
The next victim was Yury Voronov, founder-CEO of Astra Shipping, a Gazprom contractor. He was found dead in a Leningrad cottage on 4 July 2022. His body was in the swimming pool with a gunshot wound to the head. A pistol was found near the body. Investigators claimed no one was seen on CCTV cameras entering the house.
