Kerala's Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls on April 26, in the second phase. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is eyeing reelection from the seat, but both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) are putting up a tough fight.&nbsp;
In 2019, Rahul Gandhi emerged victorious with a margin of over 4 lakh, the highest by any candidate in Kerala. But this time, the Congress leader is up against CPI's Annie Raja and BJP's K Surendran.&nbsp;
Annie Raja is a member of the CPI&rsquo;s National Executive Committee and the Chief General Secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women. She is married to the party general secretary D Raja and is contesting elections for the first time.&nbsp;
BJP has fielded state unit president K Surendran. Surendran has contested all Lok Sabha elections since 2009 and four Assembly polls, but has never won. In 2016, Surendran lost from Manjeshwar seat by just 86 votes.&nbsp;

Recently, the UDF convenor of Kottayam District, Sji Manjakadambil, had left the Front and joined the NDA after forming a new political party.

The Congress party in Wayanad faced a setback on Saturday as its District Congress Committee general secretary resigned from the party and joined the BJP.
Addressing the media after joining the saffron party, P M Sudhakaran said present MP and Congress candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, Rahul Gandhi, was inaccessible to even the district leaders of the party.
"If he is inaccessible to me, imagine the situation of a common man. He was given five years. If we give another term, it will destroy the development prospects of Wayanad," Sudhakaran said.
He also challenged Gandhi to announce that he will not contest from Amethi.
Two other "prominent personalities" too joined the BJP today, the saffron party said in a release.
The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front has fielded senior CPI leader Annie Raja from the Wayanad constituency. The BJP has given the ticket to its state chief K Surendran in the high range constituency.

After holding a roadshow in Kerala&rsquo;s Wayanad, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has officially filed his nomination papers for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Other senior Congress leaders, including his sister Priyanka Gandhi and AICC general secretaries K C Venugopal and Deepa Das, were also present with him.
Rahul Gandhi had won the 2019 Parliament polls from Wayanad with a massive margin of more than four lakh votes.
The Congress MP addressed a crowd, that included party workers and supporters, gathered to be part of his roadshow. Thousands of people, including UDF leaders and workers, turned up at Kalpetta to welcome Rahul Gandhi.
"I am deeply grateful to the people of Wayanad for their unwavering support. As we step into a new era of 'Nyay', I want to reaffirm my dedication to serving each and every one of you to the best of my abilities," he said.
Rahul will be contesting against BJP state president K Surendran and CPI leader Annie Raja from the Wayanad LS constituency.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi won after polling 7,06,367 votes out of a total of 10,92,197 with his closest rival -- CPI's P P Suneer -- receiving only 2,74,597 votes.

The Lok Sabha membership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was restored on Monday, days after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a defamation case.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a notification announcing that his disqualification has been revoked and his membership restored.
"In continuation of notification ... dated 24th March 2023, the Supreme Court of India has passed an order on 04.08.2023 in Special Leave to Appeal (Crl.) No. 8644/2023, staying the conviction of Shri Rahul Gandhi, Member of Lok Sabha representing the Wayanad Parliamentary Constituency of Kerala, which was ordered by the judgment dated 23.03.2023 of the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Surat...
"In view of order dated 04.08.2023 of the Supreme Court of India, the disqualification of Shri Rahul Gandhi ... in terms of the provisions of Article 102(1)(e) of the Constitution of India read with Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, has ceased to operate subject to further judicial pronouncements," the notification read.
Following the restoration of his membership, the Congress said it would like him to be a key speaker in the debate on the no-confidence motion likely to be taken up in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Gandhi was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member on March 24, with effect from March 23 after a Gujarat court convicted him in a defamation case and sentenced him to two years in jail.
A punishment of two years and above automatically disqualifies a lawmaker.
The Supreme Court on Friday last stayed his conviction, paving the way for the restoration of his Lok Sabha membership.

A protest march of the SFI, the students wing of ruling CPI(M), against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's office in Wayanad on Friday turned violent as a group of protestors allegedly entered the Lok Sabha member's office and vandalised it.
Police said the protest march contained around 100 Students' Federation of India (SFI) activists and they barged into the office.
"There were around 80-100 activists. As of now, eight of them are under custody. More police have been deployed," police told PTI.
The student organisation protested alleging that Gandhi failed to intervene in the issue of creating buffer zones around forests in the hilly areas of Kerala.
Television channels aired visuals of a group of protestors creating ruckus inside the MP's office.
Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan sharply reacted to the incident and said the attack showed lawlessness and "goondaism".
"Ghastly attack by SFI goons at Rahul Gandhi's MP Office at Wayanad. It is lawlessness and goondaism. CPM has turned into an organised mafia. Strongly Condemning the attack," the Congress leader tweeted.
