Former India captain and cricket legend Kapil Dev has reacted to Yograj Singh&rsquo;s explosive claim that he once wanted to shoot the legendary all-rounder. Yograj Singh, father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, made the revelation during an interview with Samdish Bhatia on &ldquo;Unfiltered by Samdish.&rdquo;
In the interview, Yograj stated that his anger stemmed from being dropped from the North Zone team, allegedly due to selection decisions made by Kapil Dev and Bishan Singh Bedi. He recounted how the decision left him heartbroken and nearly ended his cricketing career. &ldquo;When Kapil Dev became captain of India, North Zone, and Haryana, he dropped me for no reason,&rdquo; Yograj claimed.
According to Yograj, his frustration reached a boiling point, and he went to Kapil Dev&rsquo;s house armed with a pistol, intending to confront him. &ldquo;I took my pistol out, I went to Kapil&rsquo;s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him a dozen times. I told him, &lsquo;I want to put a bullet through your head, but I am not doing it because you have a very pious mother, who is standing here.&rsquo;&rdquo;

World Cup-winning former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has said that being whitewashed at home by New Zealand was a bigger low for Team India than the loss of Border-Gavaskar Trophy but refused to join the chorus of criticism against embattled veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
India have endured a difficult last few months in the five-day format, going down 0-3 to an under-strength New Zealand at home, which was a first in the team's Test history. This was followed by a 1-3 drubbing by Australia in the away edition of the Border Gavaskar series.
Both the debacles have been largely attributed to the team's batting frailties, especially those of Rohit and Kohli.
"According to me, losing (to) New Zealand is more hurting (sic). Because they are losing 3-0 at home. You know, that is not acceptable. This (losing BGT) is still acceptable because you have won two times in Australia. And this time you lost," Yuvraj told 'PTI Videos' in an interview here.
"Australia has been a dominant side for the last so many years, that is my thought," the 43-year-old hero of India's 2011 World Cup triumph said.
While Kohli managed at least a hundred during the series despite continuing to be dismissed whenever he was baited outside the off stump, Rohit was worse with a tally of just 31 runs and had to drop himself from the final Test.
But Yuvraj said it is unfair to lambast the duo given their past achievements.
"We are talking about our greats, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, we are saying very bad things about them," he said.
"...people forget what they have achieved in the past. They are one of the greatest cricketers of this time. Okay, they lost, they did not play good cricket. They are getting hurt more than us," he added.
Hopeful that India would bounce back strongly, Yuvraj said he has full faith in not just Rohit and Kohli but also new head coach Gautam Gambhir, who was his former teammate as well.
"I feel that Gautam Gambhir as a coach, Ajit Agarkar as a selector, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, they are the best minds in cricket right now," he asserted.
"And they have to decide what's the way for Indian cricket in future," he said.
The big-hitting former batter also lauded Rohit for dropping himself from the Sydney Test, saying it was a selfless act.
"I think it is a big thing. I have never seen in the past that the captain's form is not going well and he himself has gone out. And this is Rohit Sharma's greatness that he has kept the team ahead of himself," Yuvraj said.
"I think he is a great captain. Whether win or lose, he will always be a great captain. And in his captaincy, we have played the (ODI) World Cup final. We won a T20 World Cup. We have achieved a lot," he pointed out.
He urged the critics to exercise restraint while dissecting the team's performance.
"I was a student of the game and now I am a student of the game. The amount of cricket I have played, they have played more cricket than me," said the man, who played 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals for India, amassing 11,000 runs across formats.
"I can give my opinion. And my opinion is that when players are not performing, it is easy to say bad about them. But it is very difficult to support them. Media's job is to say bad about them. My job is to support my friends and brothers. For me, they are my family. Simple," he signed off.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was on Wednesday named New York Superstar Strikers captain and icon player for the upcoming Legends Cricket Trophy (LCT) Season 2.
Yuvraj will lead the team comprising the likes of Babar Azam, Rashid Khan, Keiron Pollard, Imam Ul Haq, Naseem Shah, Matheesha Pathirana, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Asif Ali and Mohammad Amir.
"Yuvraj's addition enriches the squad with a depth of expertise, skill, and leadership, fortifying New York Superstar Strikers' readiness to lead in the upcoming edition of the tournament," the franchise said in a statement.
The tournament, to be played in a 90-ball format, will be held in Kandy, Sri Lanka from March 7-18.
The first season, played in the 20-over format, was held in Ghaziabad from March 22 to 30 last year. Indore Knights and Guwahati Avengers were declared joint winners of the inaugural season after the final was washed out. In the LCT90BALLS format, five bowlers of each team can bowl three overs. The captain of the bowling team can select one bowler to bowl four overs by the 60th ball.

World Cup-winning hero, Yuvraj Singh on Saturday hinted at a potential mentorship role in the future to mentally prepare the Indian cricket team for the challenges ahead.
India has waited endlessly in their quest for an ICC trophy, with the team suffering another defeat in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia last year.
India won the Champions Trophy under Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2013, while their last World Cup triumph came in 2011.
"I feel that we have played a lot of finals but not won one. I was part of one of the finals when we lost to Pakistan in 2017," the 42-year-old said while inaugurating 'Yuvraj Centres of Excellence' at Merlin Rise in Kolkata.
"In the coming years, we definitely need to work on, as a country and as an Indian team, performing better under pressure.
"Australia have won six World Cups, and we have (won) two. How we win major championships is something we need to work on," added Yuvraj.
India have lost two consecutive World Test Championship finals (2021, 2023) and exited the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups at the the semifinal stage.
India, after emerging champions in the 2007 T20 World Cup, were ousted in the 2014 final and lost in the last-four stage of the 2016 and 2022 editions.
Expressing concern, he said, "I feel, yes, there is something (missing). When the big moment comes, our physical preparation is there, but mentally we need to make those decisions.
"I think, that is something I was talking about -- motivating the young guys, teaching them how to handle pressure and play their game. That's been our challenge. We have the game, and we have guys who can bat under pressure, but the whole team has to do that, not just one or two guys.
"Mentoring is something I love to do. In the coming years, when my kids are settled, I want to give back to cricket and help the young guys get better. I think we face a lot of mental challenges in big tournaments. I believe in the mental aspect, I can really come in and work with these guys in the future.
"I feel that I can contribute a lot, especially in the middle order. I have the confidence to work with the young guys, addressing not only their technique but also the mental challenges that come with cricket." IPL route ======= The stylish former India all-rounder indicated he would like to be a mentor of an IPL side.
"Let's see what opportunities I get, but my priority is my kids right now. Once they start school, I will have more time. so I can pick up (coaching). I love working with the young guys, especially my state boys, and I feel that mentoring is something that I would love to do, and definitely to be part of one of the IPL teams, I'm definitely looking at.
"I asked Mr Ashish Nehra (Gujarat Titans) for a job, but he declined it. So, let's see where else I can get a position, but at the moment, I have to balance." "So, definitely in the coming years, I want to give back to cricket and help the young guys get better. I can contribute a lot."

If those concerns are not resolved, we will struggle, especially in pressure games. Don't experiment in pressure games. The skill work to bat in the middle order is very different from that of an opener. Is there anybody there (in the team management) who is working around the guys that will be playing in the middle order? That's the question mark - the middle order is not ready, so someone will have to make them ready."
While fresh opening options such as Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Ruturaj Gaikwad have emerged for India, the positions of No. 4 and No. 5 in the batting lineup remain uncertain. Yuvraj Singh advocates for experienced players to assume these pivotal roles in the middle order.
Yuvraj emphasized, "If your openers are out early, you need to build a partnership. (Middle order) batsmen are not simply flamboyant stroke-makers that occupy the crease and start hitting. He has to absorb pressure, leave a few balls, and create a partnership. It's a difficult job, somebody has to be experienced over there."

Having made one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the sport, Yuvraj knows a thing or two about what it takes to come back from the brink.
Soon after his exploits in the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer, for which he took treatment in the US before making a comeback to Indian team.
"Onto baby steps!!! This champion is going to rise again. Was good catching up and having a laugh. What a guy positive and always funny!! More power to you @rishabpant," Yuvraj posted on his Twitter handle.
Yuvraj was discharged from the hospital after his third and final chemotherapy in March 2012. He had what's called mediastinal seminoma cancer.
Coming back to Pant, the India star recently gave his fans a glimpse of his road to recovery. Pant shared a video in which he could be seen walking in a swimming pool as a part of his recovery and captioned it, "Grateful for small things, big things, And everything in between." Pant will miss IPL 2023 and in his place, David Warner has been named as the captain of his franchise, Delhi Capitals. Axar Patel will be Warner's deputy.
In the wee hours of December 30, Pant, 25, miraculously survived after his Mercedes car collided with a divider and caught fire on the Delhi-Dehradun highway while he was on the way to his hometown Roorkee.

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh feels that the younger players nowadays are very comfortable around their senior teammates because of playing together in domestic leagues like the IPL.
The 40-year-old was reflecting back on his initial cricketing days and said that the player felt odd at times when he was asked to sit beside the likes of Anil Kumble, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, etc.
"After 20 years, I still have to be careful about what I say in front of him (Kumble). I think it was bit of a shock, to be honest." Yuvraj said at the launch of South Africa&rsquo;s new franchise league SA20 along with former teammate Anil Kumble.
&ldquo;There are all these guys you&rsquo;re watching on television as a kid and straightaway, you were in the dressing room with them. What the IPL has done is that the youngsters are now more comfortable around the players.&rdquo; Yuvraj further added explaining why the younger players feel much more comfortable around the senior players in recent times.
