Adolf Hitler's gold watch auctioned off for $1.1 million

A gold reversible watch believed to have belonged to Adolf Hitler was auctioned off for $1.1 million in the United States.

The Huber watch has a swastika and the initials AH engraved on its back.

A description of the watch Alexander Historical Auctions, the auction house that sold the item, says that it was likely to have been given to Hitler on April 20, 1933, when on his 44th birthday the dictator was named with former Chancellor Paul von Hindenburg, an honorary citizen of Bavaria – the first such honour in the history of Germany.

It further adds that a French soldier seized the watch as ‘spoils of war' on Friday May 4, 1945, when his unit became the first Allied force to arrive at Hitler's retreat in the mountains of Bavaria

There are three dates engraved on the watch: 20.4.89 - Hitler’s birth date, then 30.1.33 – the day he was appointed chancellor of Germany and 5.3.33 – the Nazi party won the elections.
