At least 100 killed, injured in a blast in Kunduz: Taliban official

At least 100 people have been killed or injured after an explosion at a mosque packed with worshippers for Friday prayers in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz, according to a police official.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast but the deputy police chief for Kunduz province said the attack may have been carried out by a suicide bomber who had mingled among the worshipers inside the mosque.

The United Nations mission in Afghanistan condemned Friday's attack, saying it was 'part of a disturbing pattern of violence' targeting religious institutions.

At least five civilians were killed in bombing carried out by Islamic State on Sunday outside Kabul's Eid Gah Mosque. A madrassa in Khost province was also attacked on Wednesday.
