'Heartbroken': Jeff Bezos responds to Amazon warehouse deaths during tornado

Amazon chief Jeff Bezos said he was "heartbroken" after at least six people were killed at an Amazon warehouse in the U.S. state of Illinois when it was struck by a tornado on Saturday night.

“The news from Edwardsville is tragic,” Bezos said in a statement.

“We’re heartbroken over the loss of our teammates there, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones,” he further wrote.

Dozens of devastating tornadoes and severe storms hit six U.S. states overnight, leaving more than 80 people dead and dozens missing with Kentucky being the worst hit by the natural calamity.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said a twister touched down for more than 200 miles (320 kilometers) in his state but the number of deaths could exceed 100 across 10 or more counties.

"This event is the worst, most devastating, most deadly tornado event in Kentucky's history," Beshear said.

While President Joe Biden said was likely to be "one of the largest" storm outbreaks in American history.
