Israeli strikes in Gaza kill 24 Palestinians, say rescuers

Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have killed at least 24 people, according to Gaza's civil defense agency. The casualties include a seven-year-old boy and three teenagers, as well as individuals displaced by the conflict. The violence is part of the ongoing 15-month war between Israel and Hamas, following an attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, that killed over 1,200 people.

Israel's military stated that the strikes targeted Hamas militants and were "precise." In the last 24 hours, more than 50 targets were hit across Gaza. One of the strikes hit a family home in Deir el-Balah, while another targeted a school sheltering displaced people in Gaza City, killing seven and injuring several others. A third strike in Al-Nuseirat refugee camp killed six people and injured seven.

The ongoing conflict has claimed over 46,000 lives in Gaza, mostly civilians, while ceasefire negotiations continue. Qatar, acting as a truce mediator, indicated that talks for a ceasefire and the release of hostages were in their "final stages."
