The famous Kohinoor diamond, claimed by India, will be worn by Camilla, the wife of Britain's Prince Charles when he becomes king.

UK's Daily Mail reported this after Queen Elizabeth II's announcement regarding Camilla. On the 70th anniversary of Elizabeth II ascending the throne, she expressed the "sincere wish" that Camilla be known as "Queen Consort" when Charles succeeds her.

The Kohinoor is a 105.6 carat diamond which is believed to have been found in India in the 14th century. In 1849, the diamond fell into British hands after Punjab was annexed by the colonial power.

Kohinoor has remained a part of the British Crown Jewels since then. It was set in a platinum crown reportedly fashioned for Elizabeth for the 1937 coronation of King George VI.

In 2016, the Indian government reportedly informed the Supreme Court that it can't force UK to return the diamond under the Antiquities and Art Treasure Act, 1972. The government had reportedly reasoned that under the law, only artifacts which have been illegally exported from India can be retrieved. The court was told that the Kohinoor doesn't fall under the purview of the Act as it was gifted to the British.

Three other countries reportedly claim the diamond.
