Omicron sub-variant BF.7 driving China's Covid surge: all you need to know

The current surge in Covid cases in China is believed to be driven by the BF.7 sub-variant of Omicron that is circulating in the country.
The variant is reportedly more infectious and transmits more quickly than other variants known so far.

The symptoms are similar to other Omicron subvariants like fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea.
The variant is likely to cause severe illness for those with weaker immune systems.

This is not the first time that BF.7 has made news, it accounted for over 5 per cent of the cases in the US in October and over 7 per cent of the cases in the UK.
