In a major development, a prominent terrorist working against India was shot dead in Pakistan on 20 February 2023.

Terror group Hizbul Mujahideen commander Bashir Ahmad Pir alias Imtiyaz Alam was fatally shot around five months after he was designated a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) by the Indian government.

Pir was standing outside a shop in Rawalpindi when assailants opened fire at him, according to reports.

Pir was allegedly in-charge of sending terror recruits into Kashmir by identifying infiltration routes and providing logistical support. He hailed from the Babarpora area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
