UK PM Rishi Sunak's response on email scandal haunting minister Suella Braverman

On his second day as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak was forced to battle the Opposition parties over his appointment of Indian-origin politician Suella Braverman as Home Secretary.

Braverman had resigned from the Cabinet of former Prime Minister Liz Truss after having breached the ministerial code by sending secure information from her private email.

In the Parliament's House of Commons on 26 October 2022, Opposition Labour party leader Keir Starmer questioned Sunak's decision to appoint a person forced to leave their job just days earlier.

Starmer accused Sunak of doing a "grubby deal" trading national security because he was scared of losing another leadership election.

In response, the new Prime Minister said that Braverman had made "an error of judgement" but had recognised it. Sunak added Braverman will be focused on "cracking down on criminals" and "defending borders", while the party in opposition (Labour) remains "soft on crime" and in favour of "unlimited immigration".
