Ukraine President Zelensky 'disappointed' with Modi meeting Putin

Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his disappointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it a devastating blow to peace efforts."

Zelensky vented his anger on social media X, hours after Modi held an informal meeting with Putin at the Russian leader's official residence in Moscow on the 8th of July.

“It is a huge disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts to see the leader of the world’s largest democracy hug the world’s most bloody criminal in Moscow on such a day,” Zelensky said in a post on X on Monday.

Zelnsky was referring to the Russian attacks that struck a children's hospital in Kyiv, killing 36 people and leaving 140 people injured.

According to reports, Modi is believed to have told Putin to put an end to the Ukraine war that has been going on for over two years.

ANI news agency, quoting sources, reported that Modi conveyed it to Putin to diplomatically solve the problem rather than on the battlefield.

"There is no solution on the battlefield. Dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward," the Prime Minister conveyed to Putin, according to sources, who added that India maintains its stance on respecting the UN Charter, including territorial integrity and sovereignty.
