With the Russia-Ukraine war stretching on, former US President Donald Trump apparently joked about disguising American fighter jets as Chinese and attacking Russia.

Trump reportedly made the comments while addressing the Republican National Committee donors on March 5.

A Washington Post reporter tweeted, "Trump mused to donors that we should take our F-22 planes, "put the Chinese flag on them and bomb" Russia. "And then we say, China did it, we didn't do, China did it, and then they start fighting with each other and we sit back and watch."" The comment reportedly invited laughs and claps from the audience.

Trump also reportedly called the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, or NATO, a "paper tiger", and said that incumbent US President Joe Biden should not say that America will not attack Russia because the latter is a nuclear power.

Earlier, Trump had said that he's the only US President of the 21st century under whose watch Russia did not invade another country. Trump reportedly said, "Under Bush, Russia invaded Georgia. Under Obama, Russia took Crimea. Under Biden, Russia invaded Ukraine."

When he was in office, Trump was accused by critics of being soft on Russia and its President Vladimir Putin, and having questionable links with America's traditional foe.
