India's agricultural policies are under attack in the United States of America with US lawmakers objecting to subsidies provided for many Indian produce.

Two American lawmakers have introduced a legislation in the House of Representatives against sugar subsidies given by many countries including India, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, and the European Union. The lawmakers alleged that dumping of cheap sugar subsidised by other countries threatens American farmers.

Meanwhile, a prominent Senator spoke against Indian subsidies to wheat and rice-growing farmers during a Congressional hearing. Republican Senator John Boozman accused India of "blatantly violating" World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules.

“We continue to engage India in multilateral forums on this issue, raising questions in the WTO, and working on counter notifications in years past to bring out really what we view as the truth to their subsidisation policy,” replied Alexis Taylor, USDA Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs.

He was responding to a question from Boozman, who is a Ranking Member of the Agricultural Committee.
