USA: Watch how a fox put seat of American govt, Capitol Hill, on alert

Capitol Hill, the seat of the US government, has reportedly been put on alert due to an unusual problem - foxes. Multiple people, including a legislator, complained of having been bitten or scratched by the animal.

Representative Ami Bera said he had to fend the animal off with an umbrella. He is now receiving a course of rabies shots. He said, "Yeah, it's about five o'clock in the early evening last night and I felt something lunge at me from behind. Thought it was probably a small dog or something, but really pivoted and jumped. I had my umbrella in hand thinking that I would have to shoo a dog away. Then like, that's not a dog. That's a fox. It all was probably like 15 seconds, right. You know, again, kind of moving is holding the fox back. Talked to the attending physician. They said even with an abrasion, you don't mess around with rabies or animal attack. So, went to Walter Reed last night. I'd say it's been the most unusual day on the Hill in 10 years."

Representative Bera expressed concern, especially for children who visit the area on spring break.

Animal Control was able to capture a fox in the area. The capture was caught on camera. However, Capitol Hill police have warned people to be careful as there could be more of the animals around. Tim Barber said, "There have been roughly a half dozen nips or bites. And so just out of an abundance of caution, we really wanted people to stay away if they encountered the fox. Stay away. Call animal control. And that's what happened not too long ago. Somebody encountered the fox. They were actually bit by the fox and they called animal control. Animal control came and successfully captured the fox."
