Violence erupts in Kyrgyzstan: Pakistan students targeted, India issues advisory for its students

India has issued an advisory urging citizens in Kyrgyzstan to remain indoors following attacks on foreign students. The move came after several Pakistani students were injured in mob violence at their hostel.

The Indian Consulate, via social media platform X, reassured that while the situation is presently calm, students are advised to stay indoors and contact the Embassy if needed.

Reacting to the reports of unrest Foreign Minister S Jaishankar advised students to remain in touch with the consulate.

Reports circulated on social media alleging three Pakistani student deaths in the attack, but the government clarified no such reports had been received. The violence erupted after videos of a fight between Kyrgyz and Egyptian students surfaced on May 13.

Attacks targeted hostels of medical universities in Bishkek, housing students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

The Pakistan embassy in Kyrgyzstan confirmed attacks on hostels and residences, with reports of light injuries to Pakistani students. However, they noted no confirmed reports of deaths or sexual assault on students.
