In Southern California, travellers scrambled to grab whatever cash they could get their hands on after bags of money fell out of an armoured truck on a freeway.

Several videos of the incident show people collected cash from the road in jubilation. While some people were clutching wads of cash and throwing notes-- mainly $1 and $20 bills-- in the air.

According to the U.S. authorities, the incident took place as the armoured truck was heading from San Diego to an office of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

Several bags in the truck broke open, littering the major road in Southern California’s Carlsbad with currency notes.

However, the authorities have urged people to hand over the cash.
