What are key issues in the US Midterms?

The outcome of the US Midterms will set the stage for the 2024 US Presidential contest. Experts believe the November 8 election will also have a significant impact on the geo-political situation

What are key issues in the US Midterms?

The US is voting for the midterms at a critical time both globally and at the domestic front

Key issues for the voters include the state of economy and rising inflation

While the top priority for the Democrats is safeguarding women rights and access to abortion they are also addressing climate change and calling for stricter gun control

But Republicans have focused voter attention on issues like inflation, crime and illegal immigration

Changes in the US politics will also have a direct impact on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, global economic slowdown and the unrest in Iran

Midterms take place two years after the election of a president and determine which party controls Congress

If the president's party does not hold majorities, it becomes very difficult to pass laws in the Parliament

According to surveys, Democrats are likely to lose the House and face an extremely tough fight in retaining their wafer-thin majority in the Senate

Only three out of the last 22 mid-term elections have seen the incumbent president's party make gains in the House of Representatives.

In this election, the Republicans need just one seat to control the Senate
