    India imposed 84 shutdowns in 2022 and remained the country with the highest number of recorded shutdowns in the world for the fifth consecutive year, according to a report by digital rights organisation, Access Now.

    There were 49 shutdowns reported in Jammu and Kashmir followed by Rajasthan and West Bengal which enforced 12 internet shutdowns last year.

    As per the report released on 28 February, a record 35 countries shut down internet services 187 times last year.
