Followed the geopolitical tensions, domestic equity market benchmarks BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 ended in red for the fifth staright session on Tuesday.

The Sensex fell 382.91 points to end the day at 57,300.68, while Nifty shed 114.50 points or 0.67% at close at 17,092.20 after President Vladimir Putin formally recognised the two regions in eastern Ukraine, escalating a security crisis on the continent.

Here are some highlights:

1. Tata Steel, BPCL, TCS, Tata Motors, SBI Life, SBI top Nifty losers

2. Tata Steel and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) were the top losers of the day falling over 3.5% each

3. On the other hand, Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), Kotak Mahindra Bank, Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Infosys ended in the green.

4. Brent crude prices hit $96.7 per barrel on Tuesday, the highest mark since September 2014.

5. The rupee declined 24 paise to 74.79 against the US dollar in opening trade on Tuesday, amid weak risk appetite as tensions escalated in the eastern Europe.
