Regarding his recent speeches in Parliament attacking the Congress and citing old speeches of Jawaharlal Nehru, Modi said that his comments were aimed at India's first Prime Minister, and not Rahul Gandhi's ancestor. He also took a jibe at Gandhi for skipping Parliament, and then asking for answers from the government.
Accusing Opposition parties, from Jammu & Kashmir to Tamil Nadu, of nepotism and dynasty politics, PM Modi said that this trend was dangerous for democracy and was preventing talented individuals from joining politics and serving the nation.
Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Goa are going to polls with voting between February 10 and March 7. Results will be announced on March 10.

In <a href="https://www.editorji.com/elections/uttarakhand-elections" target="_blank">Uttarakhad</a>,&nbsp;over 81 lakh voters are casting their ballot to decide the fate of 632 candidates. The elections for the&nbsp;70 assembly seats of Uttarakhand spread over 13 districts are being conducted in a single phase.&nbsp;
It is the fifth <a href="https://www.editorji.com/elections/uttarakhand-elections" target="_blank">assembly elections in Uttarakhand</a> after its creation in 2000.
Important candidates whose fate will be decided in these polls include Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, former chief minister Harish Rawat, former minister Yashpal Arya&nbsp;and&nbsp;state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal.&nbsp;

Taking a leaf out of Prime Minister's Narendra Modi's penchant for acronyms, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has come up with one for her party TMC.
Addressing party workers in Goa, where she is testing political waters, Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that TMC stands for "Temple, Mosque and Church".
The Bengal CM said her Trinamool Congress supports a multi-cultural and multi-religious state and is the only alternative to the BJP rule.
Giving a new poll slogan of 'Khel Zatlo' in Goa, the TMC chief on Monday said an anti-BJP alliance has already taken shape in the coastal state under the banner of her party TMC. She added that now it is for the Congress to decide whether it wants to join the grouping ahead of elections to take on the saffron outfit.
Mamata Banerjee said the Trinamool Congress will not allow the ruling BJP to win the elections in Goa, due in early 2022, this time.
Seeking to strike a chord with the Christian community, which has a sizeable presence in Goa, Banerjee said she has been attending Christmas midnight masses since the last 20 years without a break.
“After our government was formed, we celebrate Christmas in Kolkata in a big way. I am going to inaugurate a function (on occasion of the upcoming festival) on 20th of this month,” she said.
Banerjee also spoke out her closeness to Mother Teresa due to which she said she was even invited to the Vatican.
Earlier, while addressing local TMC leaders, she said her party has entered the poll fray not to control the stater, but to use its experience to help Goans.
She exuded confidence that the TMC will win the Goa assembly elections and said if anyone wants to defeat the BJP, it is up to them to support her party in achieving that goal.
Terming Goa as a “cute, beautiful and very intelligent” state, Banerjee said she has a plan for the tourist state, just the way she had for West Bengal, which will be implemented within six months of the TMC coming to power here.

Goa&nbsp;Election 2022: The coastal state is voting in a single phase on February 14 to elect its next government. Goa has a total of 40 Assembly seats. In the 2017 Assembly elections, Congress won 17 seats, BJP 13, Independents won 3, GFP 3. Aam Aadmi Party, which tested political waters in Goa for the first time, failed to win even a single seat.
In terms of voteshare in 2017, BJP got 33% of the votes polled, while Congress cornered 29%.
After independence from Portuguese rule in 1961, the politics of Goa was largely confined to regional/local parties.

India's smallest state has a diverse population of many religions &amp; communities. According to the 2011 census, out of about 15 lakh people in goa, 66% are Hindus, 25% are Christians, and about 8.5% are Muslims.
Goa&rsquo;s electorate has grown by more than 45,000 persons over a period of five years, with women outnumbering men by 31,460.

Only four persons have been registered as third gender voters, two in North Goa and two in South Goa.
The assembly constituency of Vasco continues to have the highest number of voters in the state with 35,139 persons.

For indoor meetings, up to 500 people or 50% of the capacity of the venue are now allowed, against 300 earlier. BJP has fielded Parrikar's long-time rival and former Congressman Babush Monserratte, ignoring the claim of Parrikar's son Utpal Parrikar.
It has now become a battle between a Don and a dynast.
Manohar Parrikar represented the Panaji seat for 25 years. After his death in 2019, Monserrate won the prestigious seat on a Congress ticket.
Then came the big shift. Monserrate switched to the BJP wholesale with his wife and eight other Congress MLAs to bulk up the BJP's ranks.
It is this big move that made Monserrate the BJP's blue-eyed boy. And the party has decided to deny Utpal Parrikar the ticket who is now contesting from his father's bastion as an independent.
Babush is a 5-time MLA and has represented Taleigaon, St Cruz and then Panjim.
He has a number of serious criminal charges against him. Most talked about among them are:
2008: Charged with attack on Panjim police station.
2016: Arrested on charges of raping a minor. A 16-year-old claimed that she was bought by Monserrate for 50 lakhs and raped.
Both the cases are at the trial stage.
Monserrate has denied all the charges and has called them politically motivated.
Monserrate's wife Jennifer is also contesting on a BJP ticket for Taleigao seat.

Since the last election, the Congress has seen most of its legislators quitting the party. The grand old party, which had emerged as the single largest force by winning 17 seats in the 40-member House after the 2017 Assembly elections, now has only two MLAs in the House.
In 2019, ten Congress legislators had joined the ruling BJP, whose current strength in the Assembly stands at 27.
But the Congress is not the first party in the state to undertake this kind of exercise.
On January 31 last year, the Goa Forward Party (GFP) had taken its all three MLAs and office-bearers to Dev Bodgeshwar temple at Mapusa and made them take a pledge that they will not support the BJP in the 2022 state elections.

Monserrate beat the Congress' Elvis Gomes and former chief minister Manohar Parrikar's son, Utpal, who contested as an Independent after being denied Panaji ticket by the BJP.
Monserrate further alleged that the party leadership failed to manage the damage control. 
As per the latest update, BJP candidate Atanasio Monserrate has won the Paanaji seat by a margin of 716 votes. The Goa elections were held in a single phase on February 14.

Even as the BJP celebrated its performance in the Goa elections, the BJP victor from the high-profile seat of Panaji expressed anger at his own party. Congress-turned-BJP leader Atanasio Monserrate won Panaji with a margin of around 700 votes, with tough competition from the son of late Manohar Parrikar, a former CM of the coastal state. Utpal Parrikar contested as an independent candidate after the BJP denied him a ticket, and secured 6,071 votes, against Monserrate's 6,787. Congress' Elvis Gomes came third with 3,175 votes. After the declaration of the results, Monserrate claimed that BJP cadre had actually campaigned for the Opposition candidate in Panaji.
Monserrate had joined the BJP after defecting from the Congress with 9 other legislators in 2019.

Goa&nbsp;Election 2022: A day after the exit polls predicted a hung Assembly in Goa, Congress is focusing on keeping its flock together and plans to shift all its candidates to a resort, news agency PTI reported.&nbsp;
The Congress, whose strength in the outgoing Assembly reduced from 17 to just two over the last five years, with some of its MLAs switching over to the BJP, is leaving no stone unturned to keep the saffron party from poaching its leaders.&nbsp;

In Goa, exit polls have predicted a hung assembly. The House has 40 members, and the majority mark is 21. Times Now-Veto predicted 14 seats for ruling BJP, and 16 for the Congress. Republic PMARQ predicted 13 to 17 for both BJP and Congress. India TV CNX said BJP would win 16 to 22 and Congress 11 to 17. ABP CVoter predicted 13 to 17 for the BJP, and 12 to 16 for the Congress. Aaj Tak Axis My India gave 14 to 18 to the BJP, and 15 to 20 to the Congress. The poll of polls, or average of the exit polls, gave 16 to BJP, 15 to Congress, 3 to AAP, 4 to TMC, and 2 to others.
