Party leader and cabinet minister Yashpal Arya joined the Congress, and another minister, Harak Singh Rawat, has also jumped the ship.
If BJP looks like a mess, its opponent Congress is a royal one.
The grand old party is riddled with major infighting and bickering in the state. Many in the state Congress are miffed with Harish Rawat over his attempts to project himself as chief ministerial candidate.
AICC state in-charge Devendra Yadav and the leader of the opposition and former state Congress chief Pritam Singh have been vocal in their opposition to Rawat.
Things came to a head in December when Rawat tweeted about not getting party's support.&nbsp;
Senior leaders were summoned to Delhi and an uneasy truce was struck.
The party also decided not to declare any chief ministerial candidate. Reports say that the state Congress is vertically divided into two camps - one supports Harish Rawat and state Congress president Ganesh Godiyal, while another supports Pritam Singh and Devendra Yadav.
Reports say that the likely return of Harak Singh Rawat has also left the party split down the middle.

UCC will be an important step in realising the dreams of the framers of Indian Constitution. It will give shape to the Constitution's aims. It will also be an effective step towards Article 44 of the Constitution which envisions uniform civil code for all citizens. On many occasions, Supreme Court has stressed on implementing UCC, and also expressed anger on lack of action on this front," he said.
Dhami reportedly said that the UCC would provide equal rights for all, enhance social harmony, and ensure gender justice.

The BJP seems to have broken the jinx of the ruling side always losing in Uttarakhand, even as Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami may have fallen prey to it.
The Congress seems to have performed worse than what exit polls predicted for the Opposition side.&nbsp;The Grand Old Party failed to capitalise on the disarray in the BJP, which burned through 2 CMs in the run up to the polls, with Trivendra Rawat being replaced by Tirath Rawat, who again quit and made way for Pushkar Dhami.
What might have put Congress on a weak wicket may have been differences and fighting in its own camp.
The Congress campaign was led by former CM Harish Rawat. However, he is believed to have hit the campaign trail very late, as he had been deputed by the Congress leadership to solve the leadership crisis in Punjab.&nbsp;Then, to make matters worse for the party, Rawat faced a rebellion at the constituency which he wanted to contest from. After being declared as the Ramnagar candidate, Rawat was subsequently assigned to Lalkuwa. This is believed to be because of the threat of a rebellion by Harish Rawat's former aide Ranjit Rawat.&nbsp;Ranjit Rawat was given the Salt seat.
However, tension continued to brew in Congress' camp, with over five leaders reportedly being expelled from the party for filing nominations as independent candidates after they were denied tickets. These included Sandhya Dalakoti who was replaced by Harish Rawat as candidate in Lalkuwa.&nbsp;Even as the BJP faced similar problems, the Congress also doesn't seem to have benefited much from entry of BJP rebels like Harak Singh Rawat.
The Grand Old Party may have also fallen prey to complacency, believing that the anti-incumbency curse would work in its favour, according to political commentators.&nbsp;This might have also boosted Congress leaders' ambitions, leading to even more infighting.

Union minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari released the list of promises at an event in Dehradun. The other promises reportedly included&nbsp;3 free LPG cylinders every year to the poor and financial aid for pregnant women and farmers.
To woo retired servicemen, the BJP promised to build a grand military memorial and museum, and also provide&nbsp;Rs 50,000 and job kit for retiring soldiers, as per reports.
To gain the confidence of women voters, the party reportedly said that it would give Rs 500 per month to women heads of poor families, and set aside Rs 500 crore for women self-help groups (SHGs).
Replicating a vow made in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, the party said that it would make the law against 'love jihad' stricter, with a penalty of 10-year rigorous imprisonment being added.
BJP also promised to provide 50,000 government jobs to youth, and Rs 10,000 per annum to farmers. Another vow included more infrastructure for police to deal with violent situations like riots, as per reports.
The hill state will vote on February 14. Results will be announced on March 10.

When asked about the decision to repeal the three contentious farm laws, PM Modi said that the laws were introduced in the interest of farmers, but the repeal was announced in the interest of the nation.
Regarding his recent speeches in Parliament attacking the Congress and citing old speeches of Jawaharlal Nehru, Modi said that his comments were aimed at India's first Prime Minister, and not Rahul Gandhi's ancestor. He also took a jibe at Gandhi for skipping Parliament, and then asking for answers from the government.
Accusing Opposition parties, from Jammu & Kashmir to Tamil Nadu, of nepotism and dynasty politics, PM Modi said that this trend was dangerous for democracy and was preventing talented individuals from joining politics and serving the nation.
Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Goa are going to polls with voting between February 10 and March 7. Results will be announced on March 10.
