'83' Box Office collections fall on Day 5: Ranveer Singh's film hit by cinema hall closure due to Covid

In its opening weekend, Kabir Khan's sports drama '83', featuring Ranveer Singh as former cricketer Kapil Dev, grossed Rs 47 crore.

'83' Box Office collections fall on Day 5: Ranveer Singh's film hit by cinema hall closure due to Covid

There were massive expectation from Kabir Khan's sports drama '83' starring Ranveer Singh. The film estimated to be made on a budget of Rs 125-130 crore, was expected to draw in at least Rs 100 crore in its first weekend.

But earnings of '83' at the Box Office are now showing a downward trend, even though the film managed to gain steady on its opening weekend. According to a report by Box Office India, '83' minted around Rs 6 crore on Tuesday. With the Day 5 collections, the film's total would stand at around Rs 60 crore in five days, which is way below expectations.

'83' also had tough competitors at the Box Office from 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' and 'Pushpa: The Rise Part I', both of which came out a week before '83'.

Moreover, amid the Omicron scare, the Delhi govt has once again shut cinema halls and the Maharashtra govt has cut down capacity to 50%. This seems to be affecting the film's earnings as well. Delhi, which has now closed for '83', is a major market for Bollywood movies earnings.

'83' was shown on 3741 screens around the country, which is a significant number. Despite 50-60% occupancy in many places, the film was predicted to gross 60-65 crores in its opening weekend, but it managed to bag just 47 crores.

The only ray of hope for the film is that it has no competition in the second week, since Shahid Kapoor-starrer Jersey, which was to release on December 31, has been postponed indefinitely.
