Aamir Khan to give up his ₹100 crore fee after failure of 'Laal Singh Chaddha' at the box office: Report

Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ failed to pull the audience to the theatres and performed terribly at the box office. The Advait Chandan-directorial recorded an opening weekend box office collection of Rs 45.83 crore, less than the day 1 collection of ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’ (Rs. 50.75 crore), according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Now, due to the film’s failure at the box office, it is reported that Aamir Khan has decided to forgo his fees.

A source close to the development told Bollywood Hungama, ‘If Aamir Khan decided to charge his acting fees, Viacom 18 Studios would have entailed losses of nearly ₹ 100 crores. However, that loss is something that Aamir Khan has decided to absorb himself. Now, the producer will lose nominal money.’

According to a report in Mid-Day, following the box office debacle of the film, Aamir planned out a two-month holiday in the US. A source informed the publication, ‘Given his perfectionist streak, Aamir had single-mindedly dedicated the past three years to Advait Chandan’s directorial venture. The actor wanted to take some time off before he got consumed by his next project. While the audience’s response to ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ has been heartbreaking, he has taken it in his stride. The actor wants to utilise the next few weeks to negotiate international sector release plans for the ‘Forrest Gump’ adaptation, while also enjoying the much-deserved break.’

‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is the official Hindi remake of 1994 Hollywood film ‘Forrest Gump’, starring Tom Hanks, released worldwide on August 11. It also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Naga Chaitanya in pivotal roles.

The film, which has been shot in over hundred locations, is said to have been made with a whopping budget of ₹ 180 crore, and it managed to collect only ₹ 90 crore worldwide.

The release of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ was delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
