‘Adipurush’: Director Om Raut reveals he wouldn’t have made the film without Prabhas

The teaser of the much-awaited film ‘Adipurush’ was unveiled on October 2 and it has gained much love from fans. The Ramayana-based movie stars actors Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan. In a recent interview with Variety, director Om Raut revealed that if Prabhas would not have been a part of the movie, he would have not made it.

‘I always had Prabhas in my mind when I was writing Raghav’s character – it became so compelling for me. If it was not him, I would have not made the film,’ the director told Variety.

Om Raut travelled from Mumbai to Hyderabad to discuss the film with the actor during Covid-19 lockdown. Recalling this meeting, Prabhas termed it as ‘super exciting day.’

The actor also opened up on why he signed this film. He said, ‘The way he designed the film was amazing, huge. And I think he made it very well.’ He added, ‘It was Om Raut’s intriguing screenplay and how it integrated the history and culture of India that compelled me to say a yes for the film.’ Prabhas also said that he was stressed because it is such an important film for the country.

Raut further praised Prabhas for his acting skills and described his working pattern. He said, ‘The way he has played it is divine. It’s extremely spiritual on many levels, yet at the same time, it’s a commercial flick. So, it has that crazy balance of playing to the gallery, obviously, like everybody does, but at the same time, we had to maintain the sanctity and purity of the character and stay within that boundary and try to achieve what we want to achieve.’

Raut’s ‘Adipurush’, produced by T-Series and Retrophiles, is filmed in Hindi and Telugu languages but will also be available in dubbed Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada-language versions. It is set to hit theatres on January 12, 2023.
