'Adipurush': Nepal court lifts ban on Hindi films; Kathmandu mayor irked by decision | more details here

'Adipurush': Nepal court lifts ban on Hindi films; Kathmandu mayor irked by decision | more details here

Nepal court lifted ban on Hindi films, including Prabhas starrer 'Adipurush' on June 22. It asked authorities to not halt screening of the movies which have been passed by the country's censor board.

Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah, who had imposed a ban on 'Adipurush' and other Hindi films following a controversial dialogue in the Om Raut directorial, is irked by this decision.

He has said that he's ready to face any punishment but he'll not allow the film's screening as the matter pertains to 'Nepal's sovereignity and independence'.

In a Facebook post, Balendra Shah said that he would not 'abide by the court’s order'.

'The film’s writer said that Nepal was under India, this clearly shows India’s ill intention. To term this as a stunt by the Nepal government and to issue an order by the court in favour of screening the movie means, to accept that Nepal was once under India’s rule, the court and the government are both the slaves of India,' Shah said in the post.

For the unversed, one of the dialogues in 'Adipurush' mentioned Sita (played by Kriti Sanon) as 'India’s daughter'. Sita, also referred to as Janaki, is believed by many to have been born in Janakpur in southeast Nepal.

'Adipurush', produced by T-Series, Retrophiles and UV Creations, also stars Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh, and Devdatta Nage.
