Akshay Kumar reacts to 'Boycott Raksha Bandhan' trend, urges everyone not to ban or boycott any film

After Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, Akshay Kumar’s forthcoming film ‘Raksha Bandhan’ is also facing backlash and a section of social media users are demanding boycott of the film. Hashtag ‘boycott Raksha Bandhan’ was among the top trends on Twitter last week. Akshay's upcoming film became the target of the boycott trend after film's writer Kanika Dhillon's alleged ‘Hinduphobic’ tweets resurfaced on the internet.
Now, Akshay has reacted to the recent cancel culture in an interview with India Today.co.in. The actor said that boycotting things has become a fashion these days and he urged everyone not to ban or boycott any movie as it will hamper the nation’s economy.
‘Humare yaha toh sab cheez ko boycott kardo, isko kisika ka channel ban kardo. Yeh ek fashion sa ban gaya hai and dekhiye, main haath jodh ke unn logo se vinti karna chahta hu ki bhai, ban karke kiska nuksaan hoga? Desh ka hi nuksaan hoga (Boycott everything here, ban someone’s channel. It has become a fashion. I want to request those people with folded hands that brother, who will be affected by this? The country will be harmed)," he said.
He added, ‘It’s better don’t stop the economy of our country, please let it go on. It is important that our country should just come up by doing this, by spreading all this. It is a wrong thing you are spreading. So, I would just join my hands and say don’t do all these things, it’s not a good sign.’
The Aanand L. Rai directorial also stars Bhumi Pednekar, Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth and Deepika Khanna in pivotal roles.
‘Raksha Bandha’ and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ will arrive in theatres on August 11.
