As fans wait for more details on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', which stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role, the filmmaker shared some good news.

'Gangubai Kathiawadi' will have its world premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in February next year. The film slated to release in theatres on February 18, 2022.

The festival organisers announced recently that 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' is the only Indian film selected this year and will be screened as part of the Berlinale Special, a segment of the film festival which is dedicated to showcase exemplary cinema from across the world.

Speaking about the film's selection, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, "The story of Gangubai Kathiawadi has been very close to my heart and me and my team have given it all to make this dream possible. We take pride and honour in showcasing our film at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival."

Bhansali's film chronicles the story of 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', who started as a sex worker in Mumbai, but later became an underworld don in the city.

After 'Gully Boy', 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' marks the second outing for an Alia Bhatt film at the Berlin International Film Festival.
