Bobby Deol says marital rape scene in 'Animal' was 'required': 'I’m not trying to promote anything'

Bobby Deol has opened up on the marital rape scene in ‘Animal.’ The actor said that all ‘these scenes were required.’

In a recent interview with The Quint, Bobby said that he is not bothered about the criticism because they are a ‘waste of energy’.

Talking about the marital rape scene in the film, the actor said, ‘I’m not trying to promote anything. Yes, it was required. How do you showcase a character in such a short span, show what this man is capable of, what kind of person he is? All these scenes were required.’

He added, ‘We are influenced by what is happening in society as filmmakers. What is written, as a story, is an influence of what is happening in society. It exists in our society. We are not promoting it. We are actors, portraying characters, entertaining people. And if that was the case, this film wouldn’t be a big hit.’

In the film ‘Animal’, Bobby Deol plays a mute Abrar and has a scene where he forces himself on his third wife. The scene has drawn a lot of criticism from the audience.

Talking about his character to Bollywood Bubble, Bobby said, ‘From the time I heard my character, I knew there was so much I could do with it without even speaking a word. In fact, without speaking a word gave me some kind of energy that brought something out in me.’

He also said, ‘When I was performing, I had no inhibitions whatsoever.’
