Cannes 2022: Hina Khan ‘disappointed’ on not being invited to Indian pavilion

Hina Khan is making headlines, but this time it is not for her Cannes signature looks. The actor, in a recent interview with Film Companion, expressed her disappointment at not being invited to Indian pavilion, which was inaugurated on May 17.

Led by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, the delegation included many prominent celebrities including music maestro AR Rahman, actors Deepika Padukone, Tamannaah Bhatia, R Madhavan, and folk artist Mame Khan.

Hina Khan is attending the event for the poster launch of her forthcoming Indo-English film, ‘Country of Blind.’

Speaking with Film Companion, the actor said, ‘We all belong to the same industry and we all have come here to represent India. I am very very excited about the launch of the poster of my film. Everybody knows I’ll be coming to launch my poster and I am from the Indian pavilion so I was very excited.’

She spoke about the ‘elitist system’ in the industry and said, ‘There was this opening ceremony and an event happened in the Indian pavilion, there was everyone, not just from Bollywood, but also singers too. I am proud of them but at the same time, it is disheartening that why I was not there.’

She further added that she ‘could have been in the audience, cheering up for them.’
‘They were doing ghoomar. I saw that video and I am proud of my country. I don’t blame the celebrities. I feel it’s the people on the field who act,’ Hina was quoted saying.

Hina Khan made her Cannes red carpet appearance in a feather gown from the label Sophie Couture, accessorised with earrings from luxury jewelry designer Renu Oberio, on May 19.
Hina, best known for her roles in TV shows such as 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' and 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2,' marked her debut at Cannes Film Festival in 2019.
