Diljit Dosanjh moves to tears as Imtiaz Ali praises him at 'Amar Singh Chamkila' trailer launch event

Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra on Thursday attended the trailer launch event of their upcoming film, 'Amar Singh Chamkila'. Also graced by the director Imtiaz Ali and music composer AR Rahman, the ceremony saw the makers sharing more insights into the forthcoming film. At one point, Diljit, who plays the titular role in the biopic drama, was also seen getting teary-eyed after Imtiaz Ali showered him with praise.

Diljit Dosanjh gets emotional

When Neha Dhupia, the host of the evening, urged Imtiaz Ali to share some more trivia from his upcoming film, the filmmaker couldn't help but praise Diljit Dosanjh. Despite being a star bigger than Chamkila, per Imtiaz, Dosanjh didn't have that superstar air around him and was completely immersed in the character.

"It was inevitable that the actors had to be the singers. So, if Diljit wasn't in the film, then I don't know whether the film could be made. He's an authentic singer from Punjab who understands life, the cultural context and the linguistics of Chamkila better than anybody. It has been an interesting journey with him on this film," the filmmaker said.

The director further added that it's just the beginning for Diljit, making the Punjabi singer burst into tears. As Diljit moved to tears, his co-star Parineeti was seen consoling him. The heartwarming moment caught on camera has now sent the internet into a meltdown.

Imtiaz told Diljit, "You have already achieved so much, but I can guarantee this, this is just your beginning. Wherever you go, we will be with you. I am very happy this freshness came into my life by doing this film. I am thankful to Netflix, who took it up with equal love."

About 'Amar Singh Chamkila'

Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1980s Punjab, 'Amar Singh Chamkila' dives deep into the life of Chamkila, who rose from obscurity to become the "highest record-selling artiste" of Punjab.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, Imtiaz Ali said that the film is a love story between Chamkila and his music album. He said, “I feel that this film or Chamkila's life in a way is a love story between Chamkila and music. Here is a man who was so scared at some point of time about the warnings that he got, that he actually broke down and cried and he was scared that he would be killed. From that point, a few years later, knowing fully well that if he continued to sing in live performances, he might be gunned down, he still chose to sing."
