Actor Shekhar Suman and his son, Adhyayan Suman, recently shared their perspectives on criticism faced by their 'Heeramandi' co-star, Sharmin Segal, following the release of the show on Netflix. Audience described Sharmin's portrayal of Alamzeb as 'emotionless' and 'expressionless', pushing her to disable comments on Instagram due to increasing backlash.

Father-son duo Shekhar and Adhyayan Suman share perspective

During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Shekhar Suman was asked for his honest opinion on Sharmin's performance. He expressed his understanding for the choices she made in portraying Alamzeb, while Adhyayan was more direct in advising her to confront reality. He emphasized the importance of self-awareness and resilience.

While Shekhar defended Sharmin, he also attempted to justify her performance. He highlighted Bhansali's reputation for perfectionism and added that he wouldn't cast Sharmin without trusting her abilities.

      Sharmin's claims in the past

For the unversed, Sharmin is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's niece, who refuted claims of nepotism for her casting. The actor had responded to the criticism in an interview with News18, emphasizing her dedication to the role. Snajay Leela Bhansali too defended her casting in an interview with India Today, citing her innocence as essential for the character of Alamzeb.

Netflix has recently announced the second season of the show.
