Happy Birthday, Fawad Khan: A look at his short-lived Bollywood journey

Pakistani actor Fawad Khan was once touted as one of the most promising stars in Bollywood with his good looks and exemplary acting skills. However, India-Pakistan politics took an ugly turn due to the 2016 Uri conflict and he was made to leave India.

Before his Bollywood debut, Fawad won millions of hearts with his appearance in Pakistani serials like ‘Humsafar’, ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hain’, and ‘Ashk’.

Here’s a quick look at his short-lived Bollywood journey:

Khoobsurat (2014)

Fawad co-starred with Sonam Kapoor in this romantic comedy-drama. He played the role of Prince Vikram Singh Rathore. Mili, a quirky physiotherapist, is hired to assist an injured king, but she ends up challenging his family's tradition as she falls for his son who is engaged to someone else.

Fawad won Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance in the Shashanka Ghosh directorial.

Kapoor & Sons (2016)

The family comedy-drama, starred Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajat Kapoor, Fawad Khan, Sidharth Malhotra, and Alia Bhatt. It revolved around estranged brothers Arjun and Rahul who return home to visit their ailing grandfather. Their family is going through numerous problems and they have to confront their unresolved rivalry.

Fawad was praised for his portrayal of a closeted homosexual in the critically acclaimed film.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)

Karan Johar's film starred Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, and Fawad. It narrated the story of Alizeh, a woman recovering from a breakup, and Ayan, a naive musician, who meet in New York and develop a special bond. Ayan's love for Alizeh goes unrequited when she chooses her former lover, DJ Ali. Years later, the duo meets, but now Alizeh is suffering from a terminal disease.
