'Laal Singh Chaddha': Actor-writer Atul Kulkarni shares cryptic tweet on destruction being celebrated

Atul Kulkarni, the screenwriter of 'Laal Singh Chadha', recently posted a cryptic tweet about people celebrating ‘destruction’ that many speculated as a comment on the boycott calls for the film.

'Laal Singh Chaddha': Actor-writer Atul Kulkarni shares cryptic tweet on destruction being celebrated

Actor and writer Atul Kulkarni, who contributed for the screenplay of 'Laal Singh Chaddha' with Eric Roth, seems to have expressed his dismay at film’s failure in his latest tweet. Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer, which is the official Hindi adaptation of Oscar-winning Hollywood film 'Forrest Gump', tanked at the Indian box office. The movie made just Rs 49 crore in its first week.

Atul took to Twitter on Sunday and wrote, ‘When destruction is celebrated as if it were a spectacle, the harsh truths are reduced to debris. #globalphenomenon.’ The actor-writer did not specify what the tweet was about, but many Twitter users speculated he was referring to the film’s box office failure.

One Twitter user wrote, “@atul_kulkarni this phase will too pass…take it in your Stride. Wishes.” While other wrote, ‘It is a dark world out there that celebrates another person’s failure. Rational thinking is lost and its time to introspect. Really unfortunate!’

While some came out in his support, others disapproved of his limiting the comments on Twitter and found a way to criticise the film.

However, 'Laal Singh Chaddha' seems to have done fair business overseas. As reported by Bollywood Hungama, the Advait Chandan-directorial has become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022 in international markets, surpassing Alia Bhatt's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', Kartik Aaryan’s 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' and 'The Kashmir Files'.

'Laal Singh Chaddha' marks Atul Kulkarni's debut as a screenwriter. He has acted in several films, winning the National Film Award for best supporting actor twice. He was last seen in Disney+ Hotstar series 'Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness'.
