'Liger' producer Charmme Kaur takes break from social media after film's box office debacle

‘Liger’, starring Ananya Panday and Vijay Deverakonda, faced the wrath of a section of netizens on social media ahead of its release as they demanded the film’s boycott. The Puri Jagannadh directorial also failed to draw the audience to the theatres and tanked at the box office. . Now, Charmme Kaur, who co-founded Puri Connects with film’s director Puri Jagannadh, has announced that she’s going on a social media detox.

She first shared the news of her social media hiatus on Twitter and wrote that she is confident production house Puri Connects will bounce back ‘bigger and better’. She shared a screenshot of the same on Instagram as well.

Puri Connects co-produced ‘Liger’ along with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. The film released in theatres on August 25 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. It marked Vijay Deverakonda's Bollywood debut. Last week, distributor Warangal Srinu claimed that the sports drama was ‘sabotaged’ and there was a ‘concerted campaign’ against ‘Liger’.

Talking about the boycott calls, he told the Times of India, ‘The movie industry is going through a very bad phase and social media users who are members of the unjustified ban culture that has come to dominate, should be ignored. There seems to be a concerted campaign against us, almost every day. This is totally uncalled for. See the film and if you don't like it, thrash it. But how can you thrash it before it has been released and you haven't seen it?’
