‘Pathaan’ row: Bajrang Dal, VHP not to oppose film in Gujarat, while their activists booked in Pune

A relief for ‘Pathaan’ makers. The Gujarat unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) will no longer protest against the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer as they are satisfied with the Central Board of Film Certification’s revisions for the film.

‘Pathaan’, which is all set to release tomorrow, had to make several cuts, it revised the ‘obscene song’ and ‘lewd words’ in the film.

In a statement, Gujarat VHP’s Ashok Rawal said, ‘After the Bajrang Dal’s protests against the Hindi film, Pathaan, the Censor Board has removed obscene lyrics and lewd words from the film, which is good news. I congratulate all workers and the entire Hindu society for this successful struggle to protect religion and culture.’

While talking to PTI, he further said that the censor board has made 40 to 45 corrections related to songs, colour and clothes, which solve the problems and hence, they won’t protest. Rawal said, ‘Following the Bajrang Dal’s protests against Pathaan, the Censor Board has revised the obscene song and unsavoury words in the film, which is good news. I congratulate all the activists and the entire Hindu community who fought this successful struggle for the protection of religion and culture’.

He also said, ‘I also request the Censor Board, producers, and theatre owners that, as an important part of the film industry, if they oppose such things keeping in mind the religion, culture and patriotism beforehand, the Bajrang Dal and other Hindu bodies will not have any objection,” said the Gujarat VHP’s regional leader. We leave it to the enlightened citizens of Gujarat to decide whether to watch the film or not.’

Meanwhile, Pune City police have booked a group of Bajrang Dal activists for allegedly gathering illegally to protest against ‘Pathaan’ at Rahula Cinema Hall in Shivajinagar.
The Bajrang Dal activists reportedly gathered at the cinema hall on Sunday and allegedly tore posters of the movie.

‘Pathaan’ is facing major backlash for its song ‘Besharam Rang’ as it shows Deepika Padukone in a saffron bikini. Several people have alleged that the song hurts religious sentiments.
