Randeep Hooda mourns the demise of Sarabjit Singh's sister Dalbir Kaur, pens a heartfelt note

Randeep Hooda has penned an emotional note on Sarabjit Singh's sister Dalbir Kaur's demise on social media. The actor, who portrayed the lead role in the Sarabjit Singh biopic, shared a close bond with Dalbir. Describing her as a 'fighter,' the actor wrote that 'not in the wildest dream could one imagine that she would leave us soon.' He said that she 'fought a system, a country, it's people and her own to save her beloved brother Sarbjit' and he was fortunate to have received her love and blessings.

'I was so fortunate to have her love and blessings and never to be missed Rakhi in this life time. Ironically the last time we met was when I was shooting in the fields of Punjab where we had created an Indo-Pak border. It was a chilly and foggy late November night but she didn’t care about all that. She was happy we were on the same side of the border. “खुश रहो, जुग जुग जीयो” she often ended most conversations with. I do feel truly blessed indeed. There just wasn’t enough time Dalbir ji. I love you, I miss you and I shall always cherish your love and blessings,' he wrote.

Earlier in the day, Randeep Hooda attended Dalbir Kaur's last rites in her native Bhikhiwind village in Punjab's Tarn Taran district. The actor fulfilled his promise made to Dalbir in 2016 that he would offer his shoulder to carry her body when she dies. He also lit her pyre during the final rituals.

Dalbir Kaur died on June 26 following a heart attack.

She had fought for her brother Sarabjit's release from a Pakistani prison for 22 years. In 1991, Sarabjit was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court for spying and he died after being attacked by fellow inmates in Lahore in 2013.
