‘Rockstar’: Ranbir Kapoor starrer re-releases in theatres; over 1 lakh tickets sold

Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Rockstar’, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri, revolutionised the portrayal of music in Indian films. The film gained cult status and continues to be discussed widely. A decade after its initial release, ‘Rockstar’ returned to theatres, attracting cinema enthusiasts in large numbers. The film was recently re-released in select cinema halls.

Initially, the screenings were limited to a few locations but soon gained traction, earning over Rs 1 crore at the box office, according to Pinkvilla. Due to increasing demand, the re-release was extended to a two-week run, during which the film earned around Rs 1.10 crore in India. Considering the limited release and screen count, these results are impressive for a decade-old film.

Currently, ‘Rockstar’ is screening exclusively at PVRInox properties.

The film’s re-release coincided with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s ‘Tamasha’, and Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor’s ‘Jab We Met’, but neither matched ‘Rockstar's numbers.

From its screenplay and dialogues to unforgettable songs like ‘Nadaan Parinde’ and ‘Kun Faya Kun,’ ‘Rockstar’ is an emotional blend of romance and tragedy. Ranbir Kapoor stars as Janardan Jhakar, aka Jordan, a college student who becomes an international rock sensation after experiencing heartbreak. Nargis Fakhri plays Heer Kaul, and Shammi Kapoor portrays Ustad Jameel Khan.

The musical romantic drama was a major commercial success, earning numerous accolades. It also earned Ranbir Kapoor the Best Actor Award, significantly altering his career trajectory and solidifying his reputation as a versatile actor with immense potential.

On Cinema Lovers Day, May 31, Delhiites are embracing screen nostalgia by booking tickets for classic favourites rather than recent releases. Tickets for cult hits like ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ and ‘Rockstar’, as well as the more recent ‘Animal’, are priced at just ₹99.
