Siddhant Kapoor case: Focus shifts on drug abuse in Kannada film industry

With actor Shakti Kapoor’s son, Siddhant Kapoor, being detained for drug use during a raid on a posh hotel in Karnataka capital Bengaluru, the spotlight has yet again shifted to drug menace in the Kannada film industry.

On Sunday, Siddhant, who is brother of actor Shraddha Kapoor, was detained for drug consumption at a rave party. The cops reportedly acted on a tip-off and raided the hotel on MG Road. According to the police, the samples of suspected people including Siddhant, which were sent for testing have come back positive.

Pertinent to recall, that the Bengaluru Police have been actively probing the alleged drug abuse in the Kannada film industry since 2020.

That year, they uncovered the drug abuse in a section of the Kannada film industry and arrested actors Sanjana Galrani, Ragini Dwivedi, and former minister late Jeevaraj Alva's son Aditya. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory report on hair samples confirmed drug use by actors and what followed was a long media trial.

Police also questioned actor couple Diganth and Aindrita Ray in the case. The luxurious farmhouse of Aditya Alva, which was allegedly the venue for several rave parties, was raided.

In a statement, the Central Crime Branch said that there were three pillars - party organisers, drug peddlers and celebrities who participated in and promoted these events, all of which they managed to crack in the case.
